Are you excited to be a Christian? Does the thought of serving Christ every day give you an utter sense of peace and purpose? For too many there is a palpable lack of excitement about the privilege of being a child of the King of the Universe. The conversations I have with fellow attendees at a weekend worship service rarely involve discussions about how amazing our God is. We sing songs of worship proclaiming His majesty, but our conversations generally devolve into the mundane or selfish. Encountering fellow believers outside the “church” environment reveals similar results. We have the best news the world has ever heard. We have the truth and the only hope. So why aren’t we more excited about it?
We have allowed ourselves to be lulled into thinking too little of Christ and too much of ourselves. As long as the focus of our days is to see what we can achieve and acquire, we will never know the joy of salvation. Jesus died to save our lives and then commanded us to tell everyone else so they too might be saved from an eternity without God. We have the greatest opportunity ever known to man, to bring about the Kingdom of God here on earth. We have been selected to be a part of this marvelous mission. Yet we get more enthusiastic over a sporting event, musical performance or even a new car.
Each day we have the unprecedented opportunity to commune with our Creator, with the all powerful but all personal God. How can we find anything more important or stimulating than collaborating with God and helping to further the mission of Jesus on this planet? Do a quick test: what is more appealing to you, encouraging a fellow believer or meeting your favorite movie star? We have become so immersed in our culture that we have forgotten our objective. There is no greater joy than fulfilling the purpose for which you were created. All the money in the world cannot compare to the abundance to be found in God’s mercy and love. If you are not more excited to reflect God’s love than you are to portray an image of success, you need to have a serious conversation with the one you claim to be your Lord.
Being a follower of Jesus should be the most exciting thing you could ever do. Each day is filled with opportunities and adventure. If you find your life being safe or boring, I would challenge whether or not you are truly walking in the footsteps of Jesus. Tomorrow is a mystery, but one thing we know is that it will provide a chance to make a difference for the Kingdom. Each new sunrise presents a new battle, one that we will win with the power of Christ in us. Do you really want to make an impact with your life? Do you want to be seen as a world-changer? Reignite your passion for Jesus. Get excited about your God. Live every moment in reckless abandon to His commands and calling. Jesus is the light of the world and we are His reflection. What could be more exciting than that?
