We are the hands and feet of Jesus. That means wherever we go and whatever we do, we are representing Jesus. We are ambassadors of Christ. For many, our lives are the only glimpse they will ever get of Jesus. It is our responsibility, our duty, to represent well the Kingdom of God. The words of Christ must be our words. Our hearts must beat in rhythm with the heart of Jesus.
As ambassadors of Christ, we are the image bearers of God. It is a heavy responsibility and not all will be up to the task. Still others will simply refuse. But if you would follow Jesus, if your greatest desire is to be His disciple, then you must carry out the mission.
What trips up a lot of people is they misunderstand what it means for Jesus to be the Lord of their life. They misinterpret what it means to surrender their lives. I know this because so many Christians “commit” their lives to Christ and go on as if nothing has changed. If you want to follow Jesus, everything must change. Your own life is over. Your dreams and desires are no more. The way you live each day must be completely overhauled. All you knew before is gone. When Jesus is Lord of your life, only what matters to Him will matter to you.
I know that sounds a bit (or a lot!) radical. It seems over the top to those whose lives are not committed to Christ. True followers though will recognize the truth in those statements. When you have fallen deeply in love with Jesus, nothing else on this earth will ever be as attractive again. Everything and every person pales in comparison to the beauty and holiness of Jesus. The more you come to know and understand the person of Christ, the more you recognize you are in the presence of your Creator. You are communicating with the all-powerful and majestic God of the Universe.
Once you have truly surrendered everything to Jesus, your life cannot ever be the same. Once you’ve spent time in His presence, all else seems trivial. The only thing that matters is carrying out the mission of God. Indeed, the only thing that matters is to live the rest of our lives as ambassadors of Christ. It is an awesome and thrilling responsibility.
We are indeed the hands and feet of Jesus if we are indeed His true disciples. This isn’t for those who simply prayed a prayer or maybe walked down an aisle. This is for true believers, devoted followers who will not leave Him no matter what temptations the world puts in their way. We are ambassadors of Christ if we love Him more than anything else and devote our lives to His service and nothing else. Everywhere you go, you are an ambassador of Jesus. Every word you speak, remember, you are Christ’s ambassador. Your feet should carry you only in the direction of His Kingdom, and your hands should be ever building it. We are ambassadors of Christ, because that is who He created us to be. What could be more exciting?
