In a world consumed with hate, fear, immorality, and greed, where can you turn? The only answer is Jesus. You knew that was coming, and perhaps you think it’s trite or cliché. That doesn’t make it untrue. What’s happening doesn’t surprise God, and it shouldn’t surprise us either. He told us this was coming in His Word. Jesus said, “There will be wars and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6).
It’s been this way since sin entered the world and it becomes increasingly more vicious the longer sin keeps compounding. Until the Lord returns to reign, there will not be peace on earth. Until Christ comes for His bride, the Church will have trouble in this world (John 16:33). There is no magic fix for what ails our planet. There is only Jesus.
I doubt sin is any more rampant today than it has been in the past. The difference now is anyone can have a worldwide platform to promote their sinfulness. Evil is streaming not just into our homes, but into our pockets. With information bombarding our senses every moment of the day, what can we do to escape the madness? Again, the only answer is Jesus. When you get overwhelmed by the wickedness and decay, stop what you are doing and pray. Read God’s Word. Darkness cannot coexist with light (John 8:12; John 1:5; 2 Corinthians 4:6; 2 Corinthians 6:14; 1 John 1:5-7), so when you pour light into your mind, the darkness flees (James 4:7).
Like a train wreck, it can be difficult to look away from pictures displaying the horrors and atrocities of man. If you look too long at the evil going on in the world, it will darken your mood and outlook. I’m not suggesting we should bury our heads in the sand and pretend everything is okay. Things are not okay, and we need to be informed so we can make wise decisions. But if you are spending more time with the news of the day than you are studying the Word of God, you are heading for disaster. This world is Satan’s domain. It is not our home. Don’t waste your life surrounded by the images and words of the devil. Bask in the glory and truth of our Savior and King.
The darkness and evil of this world can either paralyze you with fear, numb you with indifference, or excite you with the knowledge Jesus is coming soon. The Lord is patient, but will not tolerate our mocking Him forever (Galatians 6:7). How long do we think He’s going to let us get away with blatant and unrepentant sin? Remember the days of Noah? No one believed anyone would hold them accountable for their deeds. The Lord wiped them out. Who are you to think He won’t do it again? Spoiler alert, He will. Read the book of Revelation.
We long for peace, rest, and comfort. Even the earth is groaning under the weight of sin (Romans 8:22-23). Hope is being lost and we all feel as if we’re on the verge of defeat. This world leaves us with nothing but questions, and the only answer is Jesus. He alone can save (John 14:6; Acts 4:11-12). He alone can quench your never-ending thirst (John 4:14). The world is bleak, blacker than the deepest night. There is a light. He is there for all who will seek Him; we need only recognize Him as the Lord He is and surrender everything to Him. There is no safety apart from Jesus, no hope in any other name. In a world desperate for a solution to all the evil and despair, the only answer is Jesus.
