What would it be like to live life fully expressing every passion and talent God has placed inside of you? Do you think you are living this way today? What’s keeping you from becoming the person He created you to be? We have a simple two-fold mission in life: to tell everyone about the amazing love of Jesus and to serve others in His name. It is for this we were created. Nothing else we endeavor to do will ever bring satisfaction. Do you want your life to matter? Serve God. Do you want to be happy? Serve God. Do you want to be loved? Serve God. Life is very simple but we’ve made it so complex.
Satan revels in his ability to blind us to the truth. He is the master of deceit and clever beyond our imagination. Take a moment to realize how he has beguiled us. We seek love in other imperfect beings. Our search for significance has us chasing inanimate and disposable objects. All our pursuits of happiness are temporary and flawed. Meanwhile the Author and Creator of life waits for us to turn to Him. He can supply all our needs. Yet we refuse, pledging our allegiance instead to the deceptions of Satan.
How often do we stop and consider that we are betraying Christ every time we seek to find happiness or fulfillment in anything other than Him? He has blessed us with many things, things we in turn have chosen to worship instead of Him. We are all modern day idolaters, no better than our ancestors who worshipped carved images. Why would anyone – why would we – choose to worship a dead, inanimate object over the living and loving God of the universe? It makes no sense!
So what do we do? The first step is to make ourselves more aware of what we are doing when we put value on things rather than Christ. Ask God to bring this reality to your mind whenever you are tempted by the culture and persuasions of this world. Ask Him to help you see the choice for what it really is. We never choose between momentary happiness and eternal fulfillment; we choose between Satan and God. That may sound overly dramatic, but it is the truth. Jesus said we are either for Him or against Him (Matthew 12:30). You can’t serve Jesus while chasing after the things of the world.
In this way we are wasting the one life He has given us to live. Instead of putting His wonderful gifts on display and using them for His purpose we spend our days pursuing that which does not matter. We were created to serve. We were gifted to manifest that service in unique and awesome ways. Are you really going to spend your days chasing after the temporary at the cost of the eternal? Will you discard all you have been given in exchange for the illusions of the devil? Enough is enough. Live for Jesus and stop wasting your life.
