Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Risen Indeed

April 10, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus Christ has risen! He has risen indeed! The resurrection of Jesus is the defining moment in all of history. It is the pivotal event that divides our dating system. No event has ever made a greater impact on the world, and no event brings more joy to the hearts of those who trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

While Good Friday is a somber and reflective day, Easter is full of hope and celebration. But the celebration of Easter must not end when Monday morning arrives. He rose on Sunday, but on Monday we must remember He has still risen indeed. Our life has hope, meaning, and purpose only because the tomb remains empty today.

Types of Sin

March 30, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Most people think of sin as something they intentionally do. Those a little more mature in their faith recognize sin can also be things we intentionally do not do. Traditionally, we refer to these types of sins as sins of commission and sins of omission, respectively. There are, however, other types of sin. We can sin based on what we allow into our lives. There may be no active commission or omission in the circumstances, but simply allowing certain influences and voices into our lives can condition and predispose our hearts to sin.

The same goes for what we tolerate. If we refrain from engaging in sinful behavior or attitudes but tolerate it in others, we sin by not upholding the righteous standard of our King. Recognizing that sin comes in the forms of what we allow and what we tolerate will close almost every loophole we’ve created in our lives regarding sin.

Deception

February 23, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Deception is perhaps the greatest weapon in Satan’s arsenal. It comes in many varieties and strengths. The devil doesn’t need to get you to believe a big lie because a series of small ones will have the same effect. Our recent history shows us the results of generations of deception. Surveys show our trust in the government, media, and even medical doctors has never been lower. The world has deceived us for so long that it becomes nearly impossible to believe anything or anyone anymore!

When deception is the new standard, where can we go for truth? Thankfully, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). He does not change, and there is no deception in Him. We became too accustomed to trusting in the rulers and authorities of this world, turned away from Jesus, and are now bearing the consequences of our misplaced trust.

All We Have is Now

February 13, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

I’ve gotten (and I’m sure given) some terrible advice in my life, but perhaps none so damning as what I recently overheard someone give to another. They said, “Relax. Breathe. All we have is now.” While focusing on and maximizing each moment is something I can get behind, telling someone “all we have is now” does a horrible disservice to their eternal soul.

This brief life is not all there is. What comes next matters infinitely more than anything you or I will ever do in this life. To live as if all we have is now is to deceive ourselves and to reject God’s Word. This life is not all there is. What comes next is the reward or the consequence of how we live right now.

A Christianity of Convenience

February 2, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

A reader wrote to me expressing her disgust over the fact so many “people today just want to live a Christianity of convenience.” I share her frustration. The reality is Christianity is never a convenient way to live. If it is, I guarantee you do not understand what it means to follow Jesus. The gospel of Jesus will never be popular or convenient. To follow Jesus is to live at odds with society and the surrounding culture.

In my lifetime, this has never been more obvious than in the last few years. Christians around the world are murdered every day simply because of their faith. Even in the West, Christians are now being arrested for praying silently to themselves. The culture now views followers of Christ as threats to society. I’d say that’s a less-than-convenient way for us to live.
