Nothing kills momentum and mission quicker than indecision. When Jesus calls you to do something, do it right away. How many times have you felt led to help someone, donate some money, or simply say a kind word but hesitated? And then the moment was lost. Indecision kills. What could have been a beautiful moment is now gone forever. You never noticed Jesus bothered with indecision.
He knew His purpose, He knew His mission, and He let nothing interfere with them. The life of Jesus was a perfect model of consistency. Consistency is the antidote for indecision. When our default and constant reaction to any nudge of the spirit is to act, we will cut indecision off at the knees.
Many hesitate waiting first to understand what the will of God is for their lives. As I have said many times in the past the will of God for your life, my life, and every life is already known. It is to live a life that looks like Jesus. It is to love God with everything you’ve got, and love others exactly the same (Matthew 22:36-39). We claim we don’t know the will of God for our lives because living out His will is terribly difficult until we have fully surrendered our lives to Him. Here’s a quick and easy test to determine if you are fully surrendered to Christ: when you have plans to do something you really enjoy and an opportunity to help someone pops up and would interfere with those plans, do you hesitate?
Indecision is the result of a life not surrendered to God. It comes from taking our eyes off Jesus. We hesitate because we are afraid, but there is no fear in love (1 John 4:18). We hesitate because it is inconvenient at the moment, but love is timeless. We hesitate because we allow Satan to distract us with thoughts of ourselves instead of others. Jesus never did any of that. He walked towards the fear, He loved at all times. He never took His eyes off the Father or His mission. Indecision kills, but love heals and revives.
If you are tired of missing opportunities and being sabotaged by indecision, check your focus. The more we keep our eyes on Jesus, the less indecision we’ll experience because we will do what He would do. We will do what is pleasing to Him. After all, that is the will of God for your life!
When you surrender your life fully to God, a couple of amazing things happen. First, you will never question whether you are following God’s will because your surrender is His will for your life. Second, you will never battle indecision again. A surrendered life is one that never questions what choice to make in the moment. You will have the mind of Christ and instinctively know which way to go. This is the great irony: surrender will save your life and free you. Indecision is of the devil. God is a God of certainty. Surrender to Him and indecision will never kill again.
