Beginning a new year is always an opportunity to get clear on our purpose and focus more diligently on our goals. This particular new year has the advantage of coming with a built-in reminder. The year 2020 should remind us to strive for 20/20 vision for our purpose and daily tasks.
The way to gain clarity is to recognize no goal is worthwhile if it does not engage our God-given gifts and abilities and has the mission of building His Kingdom here on earth. There is nothing we should do that doesn’t point people to Christ. Everything we do should draw others to Him.
See Clearly What God Wants You to Do
The first step in setting a 2020 vision should be to determine what it is God wants you to do for Him. Don’t get hung up on worrying about God’s will for your life. We already know it. God’s will for each of our lives is that we bring glory to Him and tell others the good news of Jesus. The only thing left to figure out is how God has equipped you to manifest His will in your life. Don’t get stuck on trying to determine what degree or profession you should pursue. Concentrate on knowing Him and living like Him. That is enough. You can do that regardless of all other circumstances in your life.
Be Focused on Living for Him
The moment we begin thinking of ourselves or pursuing earthly goals, we’re in trouble. It’s important we stay focused on Jesus and ensuring everything we do is done for His glory. The way we talk, the way we think, and the things we do all reflect how we feel about Christ. We choose to honor Him or deny Him every minute of the day. Practice seeing the world through His eyes. Visualize Him beside yourself as you go throughout your day. Whatever it takes, learn to recognize He is with you every moment of every day.
No More Blurry Lines
I have found getting clear about what I’m doing is as simple as seeing it through the eyes of Christ. Consider how what you are doing, thinking, or saying impacts those around you. Approach life from a servant mindset. When we don’t, we allow our own agenda to get in the way. Instead of a straight and narrow path, the road twists and curves and you are unsure of what is around the next bend. If we are intentional in living our lives with Jesus as our only focus, our vision won’t get blurry. We will live with great focus and clarity.
We need 20/20 vision
To gain a 20/20 vision for our 2020 vision, we first must rededicate our lives to the service of our King. Whatever you intend to build in your own strength will fail. Only what you do for the glory of God will ultimately last. If you want to build a legacy, build it for Jesus. It doesn’t matter who knows your name except for Jesus. As you think about the year ahead, look intently on Christ. Focus on what He would have you do on behalf of His Kingdom. Don’t waver. Persist no matter how difficult the mission becomes. You are building a great work and you will succeed if you stay laser-focused on your King.
