The Christian life is not meant to be lived at a standstill or in retreat. We are called to run to the battle and meet the enemy wherever he may be found. When Jesus told us to go into all the earth (Matthew 28:19-20), He gave us our marching orders. We are to go out, not stand still or back down. The surrounding culture is growing ever more hostile to the teachings of Jesus and our faith. The world does not believe Jesus is the Son of God because the implication of that belief means they would be accountable to someone other than themselves.
They fear an omnipotent Creator God more than anything because such a God demands their lives be held to a standard other than one of their creation. As society grows increasingly selfish and prideful, it is the followers of Christ, His Church, who must uphold the light in the darkness.
We must never back down when our faith is challenged. What we believe is not narrow-minded, old-fashioned, or unenlightened. No, what we believe is simply true. All the opinions and theories of man regarding the beginning of life and the ultimate end of it all require more faith than anything you or I believe. They won’t call it faith, of course, but the fact remains they have no more concrete proof of their beliefs than Christians do of theirs. I would argue there is more good evidence for the existence of God and the truth of His Word than anything else, but that is a discussion for another day. My point here is we must hold fast to what we know to be true and never let the world intimidate us, no matter how loud their opposition might become.
The love of Jesus is the best news the world has ever heard. It is the only way to eternal life and life at its best. Do not let the culture erode your faith or get you to compromise the message you have received through the Word of God and His Holy Spirit. In the end, only what is true will remain. All the fanciful ideas of men will burn away alongside those who professed them. Only we who stand firm in Christ will indeed still be standing when all is said and done. No matter how bleak things may look in the world around you, know all this evil and corruption are only temporary. Jesus Christ will return to judge every evil under the sun.
Are you feeling weary and beaten down by the constant onslaught of evil, oppression, and bad news? Take heart; It means you are in the battle. God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love (1 Timothy 1:7). You have everything you need to be equipped for fighting the war around you (Ephesians 6:10-18). When you feel tired or weary, remember who it is you are fighting for. Remember what He endured on your behalf. Jesus didn’t shy away from what was before Him. He ran headlong into the battle and overcame the enemy (Hebrews 12:1-2). Through His Spirit, He has given us the same power. We are victors in Him (1 Corinthians 15:56-58; Romans 8:31-39). The battle is ours, but we must not turn from the struggle. Put your hand to plow, grab your sword, and never look back.
