Jesus is all we need. If we have Jesus, nothing else matters. Everything we work for in this life is going to go away. Nothing lasts except the eternal grace and love of Christ. The moment we try to find peace, joy, and rest anywhere other than Jesus is the moment we will become frustrated and angry.
The world can and does offer a plethora of attractive options in which we can imbibe, but only Jesus satisfies. If you have Jesus, everything you need and desire is already within you. It’s time we stopped looking outside to find contentment and begin focusing on the Savior within our hearts.
This is not about reaching some state of Zen or inner peace. Let’s be clear: if you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will never find true peace and joy. It doesn’t matter how successful you become, how much money you accumulate, or how famous you are. Without Jesus, none of it matters. In the end, deep down, you know you can’t take it with you. One day, every one of us will die. All that will remain is what we’ve done for Jesus (Matthew 25:31-46).
It doesn’t matter if we have a lot or a little. All we need is Jesus. If we have Him, we have everything. We have a friend who will comfort us in times of sorrow. Jesus is a provider when it seems we’ve lost it all. Our Lord is a fierce warrior when we come under attack. There is no external problem He cannot solve and no internal issue He cannot heal. He is truly all we need.
Our problem is we still want to figure this life out on our own. We buy into the lies of the world about what will make us happy, and feel the need to live our lives like everyone else. We want an important job, a big house, fancy cars, and a perfect family. The devil deceives us into thinking what our heart desires is to have the things the rich and famous have. We swallow the lie that if we only had what someone else has, we’ll be happy. The apostle John tells us if we love the things of this world, we do not love Jesus (1 John 2:15).
Paul instructed us to set our minds on the things above (Colossians 3:2). Those are the only things that will last. They are the only things that matter. Everything we acquire and achieve in this world will burn up, rot, and pass away. None of it will last, and none of it will secure your eternal soul. Only Jesus can do that, and He can only do it if you will surrender everything to Him and make Him the Lord of your life.
It’s not enough to say a prayer. It’s not enough to go to church or live a “good” life. If you do not completely devote your heart and mind to Jesus, you and everything you have will die an eternal death. There will be no coming back. Only our love and service to Jesus will stand the test of time. Only His peace and joy will satisfy our souls. We need nothing this world has to offer. All we need is Jesus.
