There’s not a day that goes by without the realization that I need Jesus. The older I get, the more obvious it becomes. How anyone gets through life without Christ is a mystery to me. Where is their source of hope? What is their anchor in the storms of life? I cannot comprehend how anyone deals with the tragedies and disappointments of life without Jesus.
If you know Jesus, I’m certain you find this to be true in your life as well. There simply is no life without Christ. No matter how good you think your life is, it can never be as good as the worst day with Jesus in your life. The reason is the love of Jesus is everlasting. It will never fade like all the pleasures in this world do.
In a world wrapped in evil and darkness, I need Jesus. I need His light. Every news story and many interactions in life these days carry a weight that is hard to shake off. Never in my lifetime has so much pure evil been on display. Never have I seen so much rebellion against the truth and beauty of God’s law. It’s all very depressing and threatens to be just a bit too much. If not for the light and love of Jesus, the darkness would be too heavy to bear.
We live in a fallen world. Expect disappointment because it will come. When it does, where will you turn for strength? How will you cope? You can turn to alcohol, drugs, or multiple sources of mind-numbing entertainment and pleasure, but you’ll always come down from those highs. You’re going to need something more. It is not possible to solve the results of sin by engaging in more sin. You might numb the pain for a while, but it will never go away. You will never find peace outside of Jesus.
The chances are good if you are reading this blog that you already know this to be true. You know why I need Jesus. It’s why you need Him too. It’s good to remind ourselves sometimes how essential He is to our lives. Indeed, there is no life without Him. We are all dead in our sins unless we accept the gift of regeneration through the death and resurrection of Christ (Colossians 2:13; Matthew 8:21-22). Without Jesus, we’re all just walking corpses waiting for our graves.
I need Jesus. We all need Jesus. He is the only light in this dark world. He is the only hope amidst the depravity and despair that surrounds us all. Yes, the world is growing darker and more evil by the minute. They have exchanged the truth for a lie (Romans 1:25). The name of God is blasphemed on street corners and in the pulpit. But there is hope. God is still on the throne. He is and always has been in control. Evil will not go unpunished forever. Those who reject Christ will be judged for their sin. No one will escape God’s wrath. This is why I need Jesus. He alone is our hope, our help, and our salvation.
