Prices for everything keep going up at a pace that is more than nauseating. In my whole life, I don’t think I ever remember anyone saying, “I can’t believe the price of everything keeps dropping!” Inflation is high and the cost of living is even higher. But one price that has never changed is the price of salvation. It was always free, is free today, and will always be free (Ephesians 2:8-9).
It’s the greatest bargain in the world and almost no one is talking about it. When you find a good deal on anything, the first thing you want to do is share it. Why isn’t it the same with the incredible gift of salvation through Christ?
When was the last time you got anything for free? Free stuff tends to be worth about what you paid for it, but that’s not the case with salvation. Let’s rewind for a moment to remember what’s included in the price of salvation: eternal life in paradise (John 3:16), the forgiveness of every past, present, and future sin (Psalm 103:12; Colossians 1:13-14), communion with the Creator of the Universe (Romans 5:10-11; John 17:3), strength to endure whatever comes your way (Philippians 4:13), an ever-present help in tough times (Psalm 46:1), a purpose for living (Ephesians 2:10), and that’s just for starters! There is no greater gift to receive, and yet the price is still zero, just as it has always been and will forever be.
The price of your salvation includes everything you will ever need in life (2 Peter 1:3). How can you stay quiet about that? Yet, when was the last time you explained to someone how they could get it for free? In a world where sharing clever anecdotes, self-portraits, and breaking news is epidemic, why are we so reluctant to share Jesus? Don’t we care that almost everyone we see every day is going to die and spend eternity in Hell with Satan and his demons (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:15)? What’s wrong with us?
It’s not as if we’re trying to sell something people don’t need. The price of salvation is free, and there’s not a soul on earth who doesn’t need it. The purpose of having Jesus is to share Him with everyone we meet (Matthew 28:19-20). He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). There is no other way for people to be saved from their sin and the evil in this world (Acts 4:12). There is no other name but the name of Jesus that has the power to save them (Philippians 2:9-11; Romans 10:13).
If you tell people about Jesus, some will ignore you. Most will laugh at you and offer a condescending smile before going about their day. Some may even respond with hostility (Matthew 5:11-12). These light afflictions are nothing when compared to the glorious gospel and grace of Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:17). With the price of salvation still at its all-time low, how can we not offer it to our family, friends, co-workers, and even absolute strangers? The message of Christ was never meant to be hidden away (Matthew 5:14-16). Get out there, shine the light you have inside you, and tell somebody about Jesus.
