We should praise and give glory to God for every blessing in our lives because everything good comes from God. He alone is the author of all beauty and goodness (Genesis 1:31). The sin within us taints everything our minds conceive and our hands create. Therefore, any good that comes out of our lives is because God chose to perfect our imperfections and to purify that which is unclean.

We could never do that on our own. We could spend our entire lives striving to be good and never achieve it for a second. Things we do might appear to be good, but under the covers, we are still as imperfect and sinful as always. There is no goodness apart from Christ.
No human is good in and of themselves (Romans 3:10-12). Jesus affirmed this truth when He told the rich young ruler that no one was good except for God (Mark 10:18) and that there are no good works apart from God (Matthew 19:16-17; John 15:5). We are fallen creatures, infected with sin and incapable of living lives acceptable to God if not for the sacrifice of His Son (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
We would not even understand what good means except for God revealing Himself through Scripture. He is the only standard of goodness because goodness is the very essence of who He is (Psalm 34:8). He is love, compassion, and peace (1 John 4:8; Philippians 4:7). Our God is joy, rest, and strength (Nehemiah 8:10; Matthew 11:28-29). And in His goodness, He is just, righteous, and fierce in defending His holiness (Deuteronomy 32:4). Never mistake His goodness for passivity in the face of someone offending that goodness.
God is our rock and refuge (Psalm 18:2), an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Why? Because He is good. There is nothing about Him that is not good and nothing He does that is not good (Psalm 119:68). Everything good comes from God, the author and perfecter of our faith (James 1:17; Hebrews 12:2).
Any good we do is, in reality, God working through us (Philippians 2:13). Any good that comes to us is because of God’s mercy and grace (Titus 3:5). Never fail or cease to be thankful for the blessings He brings into your life (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Don’t hesitate to give Him glory and never take any pride or satisfaction in it. You had nothing to do with it because everything good comes from God. We must possess the humility to recognize that fact and give Him all the honor and praise He is due (Psalm 115:1).
We must have the humility to recognize every blessing as a sovereign gift from the Sovereign God. Every bill we pay is a result of God’s provision for us (Philippians 4:19). Every bite we eat is because of the abundant mercy of our loving Creator (Psalm 145:15-16). Even every breath is a blessing, a gift from the Lord, given for the purpose of continuing His mission on earth (Acts 17:25; Matthew 28:18-20). Without Christ we are wretched, evil, vile, and without hope (Ephesians 2:1-3). Nothing good comes from us because everything good comes from God. And thanks to His unsurpassable goodness, He redeems we who are otherwise unredeemable (Colossians 1:13-14; Romans 8:1). He puts His goodness into every soul who will bow to Him as Lord (2 Corinthians 5:17). And that is the greatest blessing of them all.
