Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Discipleship

On Following Jesus

April 25, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

true peace, peace, finding peace, peace in Jesus

Sometimes I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall. I hang out with people who profess to be followers of Jesus, only to find out they are merely Christians. As Andy Stanley pointed out in a recent message, Christ -followers in the first century did not refer to themselves as Christians; they called each other disciples. There’s a huge gap between those two words. A Christian is someone who, to some degree or another, believes in Jesus. A disciple is one who doggedly pursues and obeys Christ, one who asserts He is the Lord of their life, and actually lives like they mean it. Which word better describes you?

Jesus is Everything

April 22, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

true peace, peace, finding peace, peace in Jesus

Some day I’m going to figure out why we go looking for things to satisfy the longings of our heart. We have devoted our lives to serving God, the One who created us, loved us, and died for us. He has been there for us our entire lives. Yet the moment something doesn’t go our way, we react like spoiled children and immediately begin seeking comfort and enjoyment in the things of this world. We consume our time with endeavors that bring at best a fleeting distraction that brings no long term joy or fulfillment. Meanwhile our King waits patiently on the sidelines.

God’s Will Today

April 8, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

god's will,what is God's will for my life,finding God's will,why are we here,God's purpose,what should I do with my life

In a recent message about finding God’s will, Steven Furtick made what I thought was a very insightful statement. He said that, “God’s will is more about the present than the future.” We often take the long view in trying to determine what God wants us to do with our lives while neglecting what we should be doing in this moment. Being in God’s will is all about obeying Him in our daily lives. When we are living our lives in the ways He modeled for us, we are in His will. When we care for others and think less of ourselves, we are doing God’s will.

Living for Jesus

March 18, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

disciple,discipleship,to die is gain,live for Jesus,whatever the cost,take up your cross,born again

I recently heard Greg Boyd say how troubled he was that “so many people say they are willing to die for Christ, yet they aren’t willing to live for Him”. How easy it is for us to proclaim our loyalty to Jesus and say that we would never deny Him, even if that meant being killed. If that is true, why is it we live lives that look exactly like those around us? How can it possibly be true that we would have the resolve to die for Christ when we can’t even muster the discipline to live for Him in our daily lives?

Fan or Follower?

March 7, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first,not a fan,kyle idleman,devotion

What are we doing? How much longer are we going to play at this thing called Christianity? We prayed the prayer. We got baptized. We’re good. Is that all there is? Why did Jesus say that one day many would come to Him saying, “Lord, Lord!”, and yet He will send them away because He never knew them (Matthew 7:21-23)? Are we missing something? Surely we know and are blessed by God; how else could we be so content and living such comfortable lives? We have been lulled into a false security and our very lives hang in the balance.
