I Surrender All

March 14, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

There’s a certain appeal to abandoning everything for Christ. We’re compelled by the sheer enormity of the task. It can be alluring to so radically go against the flow of society. We will indeed stand out as a very peculiar people. That’s the vision many have when they embark on total surrender. The act is noteworthy and pleasing to God. Our deepest desire is to live our lives in a way that glorifies Jesus. So why do so many who choose to surrender all wind up going back to recover some of it for themselves?

What’s On Your Mind?

January 31, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

think on these things, you are what you think about, ppurity, think positive, thought life

There’s a wise adage that says, “What has your attention has you”. So the question is really obvious; what has your attention today? If our focus is anywhere other than on Jesus Christ, we are captured by something other than Him. Satan is a master of distraction. Since the dawn of time he has been parading a feast of temptation before our eyes (Genesis 3:1-6). He doesn’t care if you ever go his way; he’s content to just keep your eyes off of Jesus. We make it too easy for him.

Serving Better

December 3, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first,goals,one year plan,draw closer to Go,filfill your potential,potential,be all you can be,life plan,personal growth,spiritual growth

How could you better serve Christ in the coming year? In what ways could you intentionally change your life that would allow you to walk more closely with Him? It should be our goal to always be striving to look more like Jesus, to walk more closely in His footsteps. This won’t just happen, we must purposefully decide to seek Him more fully and make a plan for how to do that. If we want our relationship with Christ to grow more in the next year, if we want to live our lives fully devoted to Him, it must begin with a conscious decision and disciplined follow-through.  I’ve got three ideas to help you in this endeavor.

What’s Influencing You?

October 22, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

influence,being intentional,Jim Rohn,who do you listen to,john lawry,persuasion,purpose driven life,intentionality,living intentionally

We become what we allow ourselves to consume.  We become like those with whom we surround ourselves, and those we seek to emulate. Whether or not something influences us is not the correct question. Each of us is being influenced every day by something or someone. The only question we then have to ask ourselves is who or what is doing the influencing. Unless we are intentional about what we choose to allow into our hearts and minds, we will slip into a pattern of living that is not consistent with the person Christ created us to be.

Mediocrity

August 30, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

life plan,mediocrity,settling for less,be your best,your best life,determination

“Mediocrity is the signature of chronic inconsistency” writes Jim Collins in his latest book, “Great by Choice”. This should serve as a stinging rebuke to most of us as we consider our walk with Jesus. The follow through on our devotion to Him is pathetic, as evidenced by the condition of the world around us. We long to make an impact for Christ, but we sputter and hesitate, stuck in an endless loop of starting and stopping. New Year’s resolutions to read our Bible and pray every day are forgotten by February, and we disengage our commitment to the poor as soon as we hit a rough financial patch. The problem is we lack the disciplined consistency to truly follow Jesus.
