Where are you finding life today? We seek satisfaction in many things, but none of them will last, and none are worthy of your life. It’s no wonder why those who don’t know Christ would chase after so many things trying to find some meaning or to make sense of this life. But for followers of Jesus, we’ve got to recognize our pursuit of anything other than Jesus is futile.
God created us to glorify Him. Too often we buy into the lie that the story is about us. We ask questions like, “What does God want me to do with my life?” It’s a terrible question, flawed at its premise. There is no “my” life. It belongs to God. A better question would be, “How can I best glorify God and manifest His Kingdom today?”
Jesus said we don’t live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from God’s mouth (Matthew 4:4). Jesus is the embodiment of every word God speaks. Life isn’t about food, money, success, pleasure, or anything else you deem essential. Life comes from the word of God, and that Word is Jesus (John 1:1-5). Finding life in Jesus means knowing Him, loving Him, and serving Him. Why would we think we could find a better alternative to living than in the author of life Himself? When we stop living to consume and instead live to glorify and serve Christ, we will find everything we’ve been looking for. We will discover how empty life is apart from Jesus.
Our self-centered way of living is the product of generations of people succumbing to the lies of the devil. Living for ourselves now seems so natural we rarely even recognize it’s what we are doing. In our minds, we convince ourselves we are followers of Christ, but our actions tell a different story. We say we are seeking Jesus, but in truth, we are finding life in the things of this world. For those whose life is going well, they don’t want to let go of the comforts and pleasures they’ve gained. It’s why success is such a dangerous trap. Too often we buy into the thinking that our accomplishments and the perks that come along with them are what life is all about. It’s a lie and one that will cost you your soul.
We are not free to live however we want. God will demand an account of our lives one day. If we spend our short time on earth finding life in anything other than Jesus, we are living in sin and falling short of the will of God. He created us for His purposes, not for our own. You will not find life in anything you gain on earth. You will find life only in those things you do for Christ, things that build the Kingdom of Christ here on earth. We’ve allowed the devil to deceive us. Life is not about us. It’s all about Jesus. Unless we are finding life only in Him, our destiny is eternal death and separation from our beautiful Creator. Don’t find your life in this world. Find Jesus. Find life.
