The greatest weapon we have in the face of tyranny, persecution, and spiritual warfare is the presence of God. Our God is unlike any other God in that He is alive and with us wherever we go. The omnipresence of God is our weapon against everything the enemy throws at us. There is nowhere we can go where God is not. He goes before us (Deuteronomy 31:8) and fights for us (Exodus 14:14).
While we spend our time trying to figure out how to live a victorious life, God has already secured the victory on our behalf. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we have already won. No matter how dark the days or the circumstances surrounding us, we have the assurance that God is here.
The Psalmist tells us God is our refuge and strength, our stronghold and deliverer (Psalm 18:1-2). He is our weapon, and we need nothing else to ward off the attacks of the devil. The strength we have in Jesus is greater than anything or anyone else (1 John 4:4). His power is available in every moment. His strength and mercy allow us to do things we would never have deemed possible otherwise. He opens doors of opportunity and gives us the words to say so we might glorify Him. With Jesus, we need not fear anyone.
There are countless examples in my own life where God put me in a position I could have never achieved on my own. He has many times provided for my needs when I did not know where the provision would come from. His power is ridiculous, His care for even the tiniest detail in our lives incomprehensible.
Another way Jesus manifests as our weapon is through the peace He provides regardless of our circumstances. Without Jesus, the cares and tragedies of this life would easily consume us. But with Him, we have confidence He can turn any situation, no matter how dire, into something He can use to further His Kingdom. We know He is our ever-present help. Even though people may ridicule, beat, or arrest us, we have the peace of Jesus in our hearts because we know no matter what happens, eventually we will be with Him for eternity.
There is no weapon greater than peace. With it, they cannot defeat you. It is the ultimate freedom. You can starve, wound, or even kill me, but the peace I have in knowing Jesus trumps everything. You can never defeat me because in the end I will spend eternity bowed in front of my King. That is the greatest reward.
It may seem odd thinking of Jesus as our weapon, but consider how He allows us to overcome every situation and any adversary. If that isn’t a great weapon, I don’t know what is. We win every battle because of the love of Jesus we have within. His Holy Spirit is always speaking words of peace to us and lifting our prayers to Heaven. Don’t be discouraged. Jesus has not left us defenseless in a world that grows in its hatred toward us every hour. Jesus is our weapon, and He will deliver us. We need only to surrender our hearts to Him and lay every care at His feet.
