Do you ever think about seeing Jesus? I don’t mean the casual way we sometimes say the phrase, but rather giving serious thought to the moment you meet Him face to face. I think it’s a great exercise that is at once both exhilarating and terrifying. It’s exhilarating because we will know the struggle is over. Everything we’ve endured will be worth it, and we will spend the rest of eternity in the presence of Christ.
I can’t even imagine the tears that will flow that day as an overwhelming peace and rest floods our souls. At the same time, seeing Jesus face to face is a terrifying proposition. His Holiness will make it clear how unworthy we are. I imagine my mind will fill with all the times I let Him down and all the things I left unsaid or undone. We will have no other option but to fall at His feet and beg for mercy.
The most incredible news for us is that He is merciful beyond our wildest imagination and there will be forgiveness for those who have placed their faith and trust in Him. I picture Jesus placing His hand on my head, reassuring me that He forgives it all, and welcoming me into His peace. In an instant, we will know everything we desired on earth is meaningless. We will know that Jesus is everything we’ve been searching for our entire lives. He alone fills our every desire. Find some time to put aside all the busyness in your life and just meditate on seeing Jesus for the first time. It’s overwhelming and convicting.
It’s therapeutic to take our eyes off of everything around us and just focus on seeing Jesus. We get so caught up in our day-to-day lives and forget He is the reason for everything. Taking regular time to sit in silence and imagining seeing His face for the first time will do wonders for your soul. It will feed your heart, renew your strength, and improve your attitude. There’s something about saying the name of Jesus out loud and focusing your mind on His beauty and love. It’s calming and centering.
What will your pursuits in life be worth when you see Jesus? Unless you are spending your life in surrender to Him and service to others, I can tell you what it will be worth: absolutely nothing. All the striving, all the prestige, all the money, and all the stuff will be worth less than garbage. All at once you will realize you went the wrong way. You backed the wrong horse. Everything you thought was important was a lie.
Seeing Jesus will be the most impactful moment of your life. It will fill you with unimaginable love or unthinkable terror. The difference will be how you spent your life. If we love Jesus and believe He is our Lord and Savior, let’s act like it. The way we live and the things we pursue are direct reflections of our love for Him. Seeing Jesus for the first time should be the most wonderful experience. It will be if we devote ourselves to Him here and now. Find some time to get alone and focus on seeing Jesus for the first time. How do you imagine that going? Are there things that need to change in your life? Do it now. Don’t hesitate. Prepare now for seeing Jesus. The day is coming and no one will escape it. Make sure it’s what you are living for today.
