Our deepest hunger and longing is for God. Those without God seek to fill the ache with anything but Him. You cannot survey the current cultural landscape without feeling immense sadness. So many lost souls seeking relief, in search of meaning, and desperate to determine what’s the point of it all. The world is offering countless bizarre treatments for every malady, but only Jesus is the answer.
He always has been and always will be. No matter what your question, Jesus is the answer (John 14:6). It may not be the answer you want, but it is the answer you need. To seek lasting comfort in anyone or anything else is nothing more than an exercise in futility.
It is only when one comes to the end of themselves that they can determine their need for something outside of themselves. As long as someone thinks they can fix themselves, they will waste their lives seeking to grasp that which they can never hold. When you seek Jesus first, He satisfies everything you need or want in Him (Matthew 6:33). Only He can and will fill your emptiness (Psalm 107:9).
As we thirst for more of God, He fills us with His Spirit (Matthew 5:6). That Spirit, the Holy Spirit of God, will repair the mental damage society inflicts on you. That same Spirit will heal your emotional wounds and reveal God’s truth to you (John 16:13).
Once you see the truth, you will know how to live and find a life more abundant than you dreamed possible (John 10:10). God created you in His image and ascribes unconditional worth to your life (Genesis 1:27). He knows the purpose He intends for you and will equip you with everything you need to fulfill it (Hebrews 13:20–21).
After tasting a little of His goodness, you will find what you’ve been missing (Psalm 34:8). You can spend your entire life feeding on Him and still want ever more. God’s righteousness and glory are what is missing from your soul (Romans 3:23). It is what all souls crave. It is what fills our deepest hunger and our heart’s strongest desire.
The prophet Isaiah says, “Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the water” (Isaiah 55:1–2). Jesus says, “Come, all you who are weary and burdened” (Matthew 11:28). Whoever drinks of the water of Christ, His life-giving Holy Spirit, will never thirst for anything else (John 4:14; John 7:37–39). He will give you rest and unsurpassed joy (Psalm 16:11).
There is no confusion in God’s eyes as to who you are or why you are here. He knit you together in your mother’s womb before you were born (Psalm 139:13–16). He is in the smallest details of your life and has work for you to do in this world (Ephesians 2:10). You are not a mistake, and you have a definite purpose. It’s all found in Christ.
The world is lying to you and offering an endless supply of options that will never satisfy and will lead you to nothing but more confusion, more depression, and more questions. Culture has no answers. Jesus alone is the answer (Acts 4:12). Nothing else will satisfy. Nothing else will heal or fulfill our deepest hunger. Only Jesus. Truth and salvation are yours for the asking. Just open your hands and receive the gift of His sacrifice for you (John 6:47–51). What are you waiting for?
