What if you were starting over in your walk with Christ? What would you do differently than you are doing right now? It’s easy and even inevitable to fall into ruts if we are not intentional in our choices. Are you living the life you know Jesus wants you to live? Why not? What’s holding you back? What fears have been getting in the way of you living your potential and becoming the person God created you to be?
I admit it’s a lot of questions to throw at you all at once, but if we aren’t taking the time to evaluate where we are in our relationship with Jesus and how we’re doing in our walk, we will continue to drift along doing the same things we’ve always done and achieving the same results we’ve always gotten.
Living in stasis is not the victorious overcoming life to which each of us has been called (I John 5:3–5). As I’ve stated many times, we have not been called to mediocrity. We know this because Jesus was not mediocre. Jesus achieved everything He was given to do with His life. Can we honestly say we’re on track to do the same? If you died today, what would be left undone? What is it about your walk with Christ you know you need to change, to do differently? We all have a chance at starting over. At least we do right now. With no guarantee of the next moment, we must seize the one at hand. Now is the time to begin again. Now is the time to make the changes we know need to be made.
The key to starting over is having a clear picture of where we want to go. It’s too easy to fall back into existing habits. If we want different results, a different relationship with our Creator, we’re going to have to be intentional about starting over. We’re going to need to cast a vision for ourselves aligning with God’s will for our lives. The worst thing we can do is to put ourselves into the equation. That’s what got us where we are today. We’ve lived too long straddling the fence between what we want to do with our lives and what God created us to do. If you won’t make Jesus your only focus, there’s no sense in starting over. You may as well just keep doing what you’re doing.
If you are serious about starting over, about rebooting your relationship with Jesus in an effort to align more closely with His will, you must decide nothing matters but Him. You must – once and for all – die to everything but Jesus. Surrender it all to Him. Now put in place those habits and activities you already know you should be doing but aren’t. Stick to the new habits and get rid of the old. It won’t be easy, but if you are serious about being a true disciple of Christ, it will be necessary. Now is the time for starting over. What are you waiting for?
