Someone recently gave me a book titled, “Every Moment Holy”. I haven’t had the chance to read it, but the title struck me. To see every moment as holy is our responsibility as worshippers of the One true God. To live every moment holy is the calling on every life that proclaims Jesus Christ as Lord. Our attitude each day should be to see God’s holiness in every moment of the day and to observe how He constantly reveals His glory in the world around us.
There is so much sin and darkness, but God’s holiness can still be found by those who seek Him. As we seek His glory, we bring Him glory by ordering our steps so that everything we think, say, and do is holy and pleasing to our King.
Finding the goodness of God can be difficult in a world growing increasingly dark and sinful. It’s so easy to get caught up and obsess over everything wrong in the world. As long as we are focusing on the bad, we will not be able to see the good. But we know the darkness cannot contain or snuff out the light of the world. The light is all around us when we look for it. We know this because God is everywhere. He does not leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6,8; Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:19-20). The Holy Spirit is at once everywhere. God’s light is all around us, but we’ve allowed the darkness to cloud our vision and prevent us from seeing it.
To clear our vision, we need to saturate our minds with God’s Word. Read your Bible, absorb it, and allow it to penetrate the deepest parts of your heart and mind. The more truth we take in, the more it will flush the lies out. Darkness cannot cohabitate with light (2 Corinthians 6:14; 1 John 1:6-7). Inhale light, and you will exhale the darkness from your mind.
As we aspire to live every moment holy, it will require a change in our habits and thought processes. All of us are steeped in sin since birth. There are many things we enjoy that are not glorifying to God. The thoughts we think and activities we engage in are either of God or not of God. There isn’t any neutral ground. We must capture every thought and examine whether it is worthy of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Discard those thoughts that aren’t. Dwell on the ones that are (Philippians 4:8). If you can’t bring God’s light into a venture or activity, then run away from it.
Deciding to live every moment holy may be painful at first. Sin is enjoyable to our flesh. If it weren’t, it wouldn’t be difficult to resist. But the joy found in living according to God’s Word for the purpose of bringing glory to the King of Kings is far greater than any earthly pleasure or experience. Nothing is as satisfying as doing what we are designed to do for the One who created us to do it. To live every moment holy is to live life at our highest calling. It is to fulfill our purpose on earth for the glory of the Creator God with whom we will spend eternity. If you determine to live every moment holy, the light and glory of God will surround you. You will experience joy like never before.
