Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Do You Know Jesus?

February 21, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Many have said knowledge is power. This isn’t exactly true. I like how Darren Hardy put it: “Knowledge isn’t power. What you do with it becomes powerful, but only if you do it consistently.” It’s not enough to know about Jesus. It’s not enough to know the Bible inside and out. If you never do anything with all your knowledge of God, it will never count for anything. You’ll still go to Hell, probably spouting Bible verses all along the way.

In addition, if we are not consistently implementing what Christ has taught us, our lives will fall far short of what He designed and created us to do. He doesn’t want us to simply know about Him, or even to just believe in Him; He wants us to know Him. Do you know Jesus?

Your Personal Philosophy

February 18, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

My mentor, Jim Rohn, often spoke about having a personal philosophy. What he meant was to be intentional and have a plan for how you would live in each area of your life. For example, among others, we should have a financial philosophy, a relationship philosophy, and first and foremost a spiritual philosophy. When it comes to being a disciple of Jesus, the spiritual philosophy is what must drive all others.

If we mess this one up, we will not recover. But if we get it right, we can overcome any other failure or tragedy in life. What’s your personal philosophy when it comes to following Jesus? Have you ever thought about it?

Personal Transformation

February 14, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

We all want to make an impact for Jesus in this world. It is a mark of the true disciple. Perhaps you’ve been discouraged by your lack of effectiveness in making a difference for Christ. You wonder what is keeping you from doing more. I think Frank Viola has hit on one possibility. He said, “Our impact for Christ on others will be limited by our own personal transformation.”

No matter how sincere our desire or intent, we will never exceed our own transformation into the image of Christ. We will never be able to replicate that which we have not yet duplicated. In other words, our impact will be limited by how much our own lives look like that of Jesus.

Spend Our Time

February 11, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I recently came across a concept which resonated deeply with me. The thought, in a nutshell, is to realize we never spend money, only time. What a revolutionary way to think! Most of us work jobs where we spend our time in exchange for money. Every dollar we recirculate is the result of the time we spent beforehand. Charles Spezzano was the originator of this philosophy. He said: “People don’t pay for things with money; they pay for them with time.

If you say to yourself, ‘In five years, I’ll have put away enough to buy that vacation house’, then what you are really saying is that the house will cost you five years – one-twelfth of your adult life.” Wow. What if we weighed all our purchases in what they cost us in time? In fact, let’s make it even more personal in how it relates to how we spend our lives for God.

In This Moment

February 7, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

There is power in this moment. Don’t miss it. Don’t let it rush by you. Grasp it, taste it, savor it. This moment will be unlike any other you will ever encounter. This moment is the key to the rest of your life. Have you ever stopped to consider the decision you make in this moment will have ripple effects cascading into all the moments to follow?

That’s amazing, and more than a little frightening. It means this moment matters. It means every moment matters. None are to be carelessly tossed aside or ignored. Each moment carries within it a small fragment of eternity. We should be careful with them.
