Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus
Jesus lived a life above reproach. Though He was tempted just as we are, He did not sin. Emulating His life is the Holy Grail for those of us who desire to follow Him. Living a sin free life is pretty much guaranteed to be impossible, but why is that? Why do we find it so difficult to live a life of purity and devotion? After all, every time we sin it is because we choose to do so. Couldn’t we just choose not to and live a life more pleasing to God?
What does it mean to live with passion for the sake of Jesus Christ? Those of us who seek to follow Him would probably agree that it is our desire to live a life full of passion, a life fully alive in Him. In practice, however, our resolve can wane and we end up swept away by the tides of life.
As long as we are focused on ourselves, we will never come to terms with what it means to live a life of devotion. To experience the life of joy found only in Christ, our focus must be on Him and Him alone. [Read more…] about Living with Passion
Mark Sanborn wrote a great little book a couple of years ago called, “You Don’t Need a Title to be a Leader”. The premise of the book was that people at any level or profession can choose to be a leader in their own set of circumstances. Your name plate didn’t need a title to enable you to be a leader right where you were.
I believe the same principle can be applied to our walk with Christ. You don’t need a title to make disciples. Too many times we leave it up to the pastors and elders of our churches to do the spiritual heavy lifting, when the truth is Christ has empowered all of us to do the work of His kingdom. I read a recent quote from Greg Boyd in which he referenced the unqualified commands of Jesus. When you read the passage in Luke 6:27-35 you find Jesus commanding us to love, serve, bless and do good to our enemies. All of these commands were given without condition. We have become brilliant at rationalizing why we shouldn’t do something for God, but Jesus left us no wiggle room.
He said to love, serve, bless and do good to our enemies – period. There is no excuse for ignoring the commands of Christ. If we would be a true and devoted follower of Him, we have no option other than to do what He instructed us. [Read more…] about The Unqualified Commands of Jesus
I heard an interview with worship leader Laura Story yesterday. In it she made the statement that her biggest fear when she was younger was that the gospel would cost her her life. Now, she said, her biggest fear is that the gospel won’t cost her her life.
She went on to explain that she didn’t want to get to the end of her life only to realize she hadn’t invested her time and resources fully to God.
