Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

You are a New Creation

May 20, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Jesus first, behold all things are new, priorities, what is the meaning of life, what are you living for, living for Jesus,God's will for my life

In David Platt’s latest book, “Follow Me”, he writes a profound truth that, if consistently grasped, would radically transform the way we live. David says, “Feel the magnitude of this: when you come to Jesus, He puts the source of His life in the center of your life. This is the heart of Jesus’ call to follow Him. When you become a Christian, you die, and Jesus becomes your life.” Those of us on a journey to follow Jesus already know this in our heads, but have we truly grasped it in our hearts? Think about what is implied here. We die. Everything we once found so valuable, all that we considered worth working towards, every source of pleasure – none of it matters anymore.

Reading the Bible

May 13, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

read the Bible in a year,Bible reading plans, reading through the Bible, read the Bible, how to read the Bible, why you should read the Bible, why should I read the Bible

Every time I read through the Bible, I enjoy it more. For the past few years I have practiced the habit of reading it yearly, and this year I decided to read it twice. The reason is because with each reading I gain greater understanding of the overall picture and better comprehend how it relates to my life. If you’ve never read through the whole Bible, I encourage you to do so. You don’t have to wait for January 1st to begin. You don’t even have to complete it in a year. Just take it a small piece at a time. You’ll be surprised how the momentum builds as you discipline yourself to read just a couple of chapters each day.

You Are Here

May 9, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

growth,spiritual growth,personal growth,jesus is lord,lord of your life,start where you are

Where are you in your walk with Jesus? Are you where you want to be? Have you moved beyond believing in Him to the point where you are now living for Him? In any growth process, it is essential to be aware of where you are today. Without knowing your starting point, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to map the way to where you want to be. It’s like staring at a directory in a large mall and finding the store you need but then discovering the map has no indication of where you are currently standing. We all need the helpful “you are here” marker to know in which direction we need to move.

On Following Jesus

April 25, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

true peace, peace, finding peace, peace in Jesus

Sometimes I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall. I hang out with people who profess to be followers of Jesus, only to find out they are merely Christians. As Andy Stanley pointed out in a recent message, Christ -followers in the first century did not refer to themselves as Christians; they called each other disciples. There’s a huge gap between those two words. A Christian is someone who, to some degree or another, believes in Jesus. A disciple is one who doggedly pursues and obeys Christ, one who asserts He is the Lord of their life, and actually lives like they mean it. Which word better describes you?

Right Now

April 1, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

live like you were dying, life for today, live for the moment

I turn forty-five later this week and it occurred to me that I’m probably about half-way through my life. I’m in good health, decent shape, and I take care of myself. It would seem that living to the age of ninety would not be too much of a stretch. But what if I’m wrong? What if I only have thirty years remaining? What about twenty, or ten? What if my life should unexpectedly end next week? As Jesus said, none of us have any guarantee of tomorrow (Luke 12:16-20). Any of us could find that our next breath is actually our last. That should affect the way we live. Knowing tomorrow could be our last day on earth should have radical implications on how we live today.
