Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Do You Know Jesus?

April 30, 2020 by Tim Sherfy

I have a few friends who profess to be Christians but do not live their lives with any urgency or passion for Him. Being candid, this scares me to death. I’m scared because I don’t want them to deceive themselves thinking because they once said a prayer, and maybe still pray to God for help and even sometimes thanks, that they have a relationship with Him. Salvation is not an event. It’s a process.

It is a lifelong commitment to a relationship with Jesus Christ. You cannot put our salvation up on a shelf. It is a living, breathing, vibrant thing. If it is not, I am scared it may not be there at all. No one lives the life of a Christ-follower perfectly. We will all mess up and some days are better than others. But those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus will always be motivated to love and serve Him.

Taking Offense

April 20, 2020 by Tim Sherfy

Nothing good ever comes from taking offense. Think back over your life. When you have been offended, did it ever end well? Did taking offense lead to you looking more or less like Jesus? It amazes me how Jesus never took offense when people ridiculed or even blasphemed Him. He just took it in stride. He looked beyond the comment and into the heart of the one making the comment. He loved them.

This is not our response when someone wrongs us. We are quick to defend when we perceive ourselves to be wounded. Our pride causes us to withdraw rather than reach out in love. To be blunt, taking offense makes us look like a spoiled child.

A Love Letter to Jesus

April 13, 2020 by Tim Sherfy

Dear Jesus, You are everything to me. I love You and am in awe of You. Thank You for dying for me. Why, Lord, did You give up so much for someone like me? I’m not worthy of You. You are magnificent beyond all glory, and yet You take notice of me. Thank You, Jesus. I am amazed and overwhelmed at Your love for me. Your grace, mercy, and faithfulness are never-ending. No matter what I do, You still love me. Thank You, Jesus.

You comfort and direct me through my deepest valleys and darkest nights. When I walk through fear and despair, You are there. When I enjoy times of rich blessing, You are there. Thank You, Jesus, that You never leave my side regardless of how I fail, regardless of how I disparage Your name. Your love for me never wavers, and I am awed and humbled by Your mercy.

Good Friday

April 9, 2020 by Tim Sherfy

What’s so “good” about a Good Friday in the middle of a worldwide pandemic? The answer is everything. In a time where hope is in short supply, Good Friday offers the hope of redemption, salvation, and life as God intended it. The people of the first century were no strangers to disease and sickness. It was a constant companion, only they lacked the medical care and facilities we have today. There were no ventilators, only the breath of life provided by the spirit of God.

There were few doctors, but Jesus, the great physician, healed many with a word or a touch. People saw Jesus not only as an eternal Savior but also as one who could deliver them from their day-to-day troubles. Everything He did was good, and everyone He touched was restored. And then they killed Him.

Times Like These

March 23, 2020 by Tim Sherfy

In times like these, it’s easy to lose our way. The needle on our internal compass seems a bit jumpy. The culture of a 24/7 news cycle can overwhelm with information and confuse us about what to believe. Stress and anxiety threaten to overcome our best intentions and defenses. Times like these bring out the best, and too often, the worst in humanity.

For followers of Jesus, we can have peace. Our Lord is the Prince of Peace, and His grace and mercy are not in short supply. And yet, we seem to forget these truths when we need them most. Instead of relying on the peace and power of our Creator, we give in to the siren song of the crowd. There is no comfort there. We find comfort only in the arms of Jesus.
