Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Easter

Done With Me

April 17, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

One of the best-known beatitudes is that of, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). We find the shortened version of “The meek shall inherit the earth” in many songs, books, and movies. In modern English, meek is not a word we use in a flattering manner. To call someone meek many times hints at our disgust or disappointment with them.

It makes this beatitude a bit more difficult for us to wrap our head around these days. As I was studying this verse, I heard a sermon where the pastor said, “meekness means I am done with me.” That changes everything. To concern ourselves only with the things of God and free ourselves of all the vices in this world is indeed a blessing, and one far greater than most will ever experience.

We Can Relate

April 1, 2024 by Tim Sherfy

The death of Christ on the cross is both horrifying and glorious. The crucifixion of Jesus is equal parts despair and hope. Without the cross, there would be no covering for our sins. Without the cross, there would be no resurrection and way to eternal life in Jesus. The cross is central to all we believe. For all its importance, it is impossible to relate to Jesus as He hung there.

Few in all of history can relate to His immense suffering. None can relate to shouldering the weight of every sin, past, present, and future. We marvel at the sacrifice and love of Jesus, but we cannot feel what He felt that day. There were two others, though, to whom we can relate. We are not so different from the two criminals who hung beside Jesus on that most terrible and wonderful day.

Death Is Not the End

March 28, 2024 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus lived a life so distinct from the culture that it got Him killed. By His life, we see we must cast aside the things of this world, no matter the cost. The world might imprison us. They might kill us. So what? They killed Jesus, but that wasn’t the end of the story. Jesus wasn’t just another man. He was and is the very Son of God (John 3:16).

For those who deny everything for the sake of Jesus, for those who eschew cultural demands and norms for the sake of Christ, death is not the end of us either. Jesus lived the sinless life we could never live, He was crucified to pay a debt we never could, and He rose from the grave to provide an eternal life we could never otherwise attain.

Risen Indeed

April 10, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus Christ has risen! He has risen indeed! The resurrection of Jesus is the defining moment in all of history. It is the pivotal event that divides our dating system. No event has ever made a greater impact on the world, and no event brings more joy to the hearts of those who trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

While Good Friday is a somber and reflective day, Easter is full of hope and celebration. But the celebration of Easter must not end when Monday morning arrives. He rose on Sunday, but on Monday we must remember He has still risen indeed. Our life has hope, meaning, and purpose only because the tomb remains empty today.

Why Lord?

April 14, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

When I think of the cross, I can only ask, “Why Lord”? Why would He sacrifice His perfect self for a disgraceful and evil world? The love Jesus demonstrated by His willingness to endure such tremendous loss is overwhelming. The cross cost Jesus everything. In His humanity, it cost Him His dignity and His life. In His divinity, He surrendered the rights of His Lordship over all of Creation long enough to let those He created crucify Him. The very Word of God did not utter a word in His defense.

He humbly gave Himself for us. Jesus laid down His life to atone for your sin and mine. As we approach Good Friday this year, please don’t let it pass without meditating on the incredible sacrifice of our King. It’s not comfortable to think of what He went through on our behalf, but we must dwell on the cost to understand the gravity and necessity of the sacrifice.
