Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

God Knows

June 29, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

The fact God knows what we’re going through is comforting. It’s amazing to realize He knows each of us by name. But too often, we leave our thoughts of what God thinks about us there and go no deeper. In Psalm 139, David makes it crystal clear that God is intimately aware and present in every moment and aspect of our lives. His presence is an overwhelming fact, not just a trite bumper sticker.

There is nothing we think, say, do, or desire that catches Him off-guard or unaware. He knew it before we ever spoke, thought, did, or desired it. While this is an enormous comfort, it should also fill us with a fear of how unholy and unworthy we are to be in His presence, much less receive His help and salvation.

Time to Pray

June 26, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

After hitting the snooze button a couple of times, I found myself running late on a day that already held more to do than there were available hours. As I swung my legs over the bed, in my mind, I began rehearsing the day to come. Trying to schedule each piece mentally, I hit a jarring thought. Thinking of everything I had to do, I thought, “…and I need to squeeze in time to pray.” That may be one of the worst thoughts my brain has ever contemplated.

Squeeze time in to pray? The Holy Spirit immediately convicted me of how wrong my thinking was at that moment. I anchor each of my days by doing nothing before spending time in God’s Word and praying. I know nothing sets me up for failure more than neglecting those priorities. And yet, here I was contemplating squeezing in the time to pray.

In Six Days

May 15, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

I’m probably going to lose some of you today, but that’s okay. I must speak the truth, and the truth is offensive to those who are not fully committed to it. Too many Christians compromise their belief in the Word of God in favor of the wisdom of men. Simply writing that statement should reveal the foolishness and futility of such a belief. Any time we opt for man’s wisdom over God’s Word, we set ourselves at odds with God and proclaim we know more than He does.

My topic today is with the creation account as recorded in the Bible. The Word of God says the Lord created the heavens and the earth, the land and the seas, the animals, and all of humanity in six days. The best Hebrew scholars throughout history affirm there is no other way to understand those six days other than six literal twenty-four-hour days. That is what God says He did, and that is what He did.

Draw Closer to Jesus

May 4, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

It’s been fifty years since I accepted the gift of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. You would think I’d have the Christian walk figured out by now. Sadly, you would be wrong. I’m still learning, failing, and growing. Our finite minds will never comprehend all there is to know about God, and our fallen humanity can never walk in perfection with Him.

But we must never cease striving to live our lives in obedience and surrender to Him. His Word compels us to do so, and our love for Him keeps us ever-yearning to serve Him better and please Him more. Until that glorious day when He calls us home to be with Him, the best we can do is to draw closer to Jesus every day we live.

The Truth

April 13, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

That Jesus bodily rose from the dead is not in doubt. Sure, some reject this truth, but there will always be those who deny the truth because the truth infringes on their ability to live in any way they please. In his first epistle, the apostle John writes about Jesus, “What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life. . .” (1 John1:1).

John knew Jesus before and after His death. He referred to himself as “the one Jesus loved” (John 13:23), not a title one would reward oneself with for being a passing acquaintance. After Christ had risen from the tomb, John declares he and others saw Him, watched Him move around, and physically touched Him. There was no denying it, Jesus was alive again.
