Who Are You?

May 13, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Who are you? What defines your life? God says you are His child (Romans 8:15-16). He says you are loved and created in His image (Genesis1:27). You are His son and daughter, and you share in His inheritance alongside Jesus (Romans 8:17). Each of us has unsurpassable worth in the eyes of the Creator and God of the universe. You are not who your boss or your friends say you are.

You are not who your parents or family tell you you are. You are a child of the King, loved beyond measure and priceless in His plan. Your potential is unlimited. But know this: you will never reach your potential if you are letting anyone or anything else define your world or who you are in it.

Radical Generosity

May 9, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Did you know if you have running water, a roof over your head, clothes to wear, food to eat, and some means of transportation, that you are among the wealthiest 15 percent of the world? My guess is this is going to include just about every single person reading this. So, congratulations, welcome to a very affluent community. Perhaps you never thought of yourself as being rich and are excited right about now.

Would you maintain your excitement once I reminded you Jesus said, “To whom much is given, much is expected (Luke 12:48)”? As you read through Scripture, you will find the unmistakable call for us to live with radical generosity. We have been made rich to serve the needs of others.

Pruning

May 6, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

It’s easy to fall into the trap of adding more and more into our lives. These can be good things like spiritual disciplines or they can be dangerous things inflicted upon us by societal pressures. Either way, we are a people who seem to crave cramming more and more into our lives each day. When we look at the life of Jesus, the One after whom we should be modeling our own life, we don’t see Him doing this.

Jesus lived simply, on purpose, and on mission. Perhaps the better question to ask is not what else can we add into our lives, but what is it we can remove to make Jesus our overriding priority? What is one thing we can cut out of our lives today we know is not bringing honor to our Lord?

Exclusive Devotion

May 2, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

David Platt once wrote, “Plainly put, a relationship with Jesus requires total, superior, and exclusive devotion.” Is this how you would describe your relationship with Jesus? When I hear or read statements like this, I get excited. This is exactly the life I want to live. I want to be so committed to Jesus others cannot help but know. Such radical obedience and devotion stir something deep inside me.

I know it is for this I was created. Knowing why you are here on this earth will motivate you like nothing else. But alas, I cannot claim my relationship with Jesus is characterized by total, superior, and exclusive devotion to Him. Despite knowing this is the deepest yearning of my heart, I fall short again and again.
