Is Your Life Worthy of Jesus?

April 29, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Oh, that we might fall in love with Jesus. We need to see Him as He is, the amazing, loving, and beautiful beyond compare Son of the living God. How many days have we let pass by without giving proper thought to His majesty? Days come and go, and we busy ourselves with our lives in this world while giving little to any thought of our life in the world to come.

We focus on ourselves and our problems and relegate Jesus to the shadows and creases of our consciousness. His beauty should overwhelm us, but we find new ways every day to ignore it. We have allowed Satan to blind and distract us from the glory of God.

Slaves to Sin

April 25, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

We, all of us, are slaves to sin. We don’t often use such terminology. It’s offensive. We bristle at the suggestion we are slaves to anyone or anything. After all, we are the masters of our destiny, right? The truth is until we surrender our lives to Jesus, we are slaves to sin. The first time we indulge in sin, the first time we disobey God, we enter into slavery. Understand it is our choice. We make the choice to enslave ourselves. It’s a ludicrous truth. Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to a life of slavery?

And make no mistake, this isn’t a play on words. I recognize slavery is a term packed with emotion and history and is not one I toss about carelessly. But Jesus Himself told us everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34). Those are His words, not mine. When we choose to sin, we choose to become slaves.

Your True Worth

April 22, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I recently saw a sad video of a young woman, probably in her early 20’s, lamenting the fact she had lost everything. What had happened was the woman, who had a large following on the social media platform Instagram, had her account closed by the service after repeated complaints from other users. In the video, the woman was wailing and obviously in distress saying repeatedly, “I am nothing without my followers”.

I couldn’t get over how sad it was she found her worth in the number of people following her on Instagram. I admit my first reaction was to shake my head at the shallowness of it, but I quickly shifted to how much this woman needed Jesus in her life. Her true worth, your true worth, is found only in Christ.

Knowing Him

April 18, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Nothing drives me more than learning to know Jesus more. Nothing compares to knowing Him. It’s my obsession. Indeed, I believe it should be the obsession of all who call Him Lord. As I’ve stated many times here, being a follower of Christ goes far beyond saying a prayer or raising your hand in response to a stirring message. Being a follower of Christ means living your life in a reckless pursuit to know Him more. Nothing matters more than Jesus.

Becoming a Christian is a choice we make in a single moment. Knowing Jesus is a way of life we pursue for the remainder of our days. Nothing compares to the beauty of Jesus. Nothing compares to His peace. True joy and significance are found only by living for the sole purpose of knowing Him more.

Absolute Surrender

April 15, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Surrender is a word which causes mixed emotions for me. My independent and ferocious side wants to scream out, “Never! I won’t quit, won’t stop, won’t ever give in.” Surrender implies I’ve failed in some way. I didn’t complete the task or achieve the mission. I’m not one who likes to be beaten. On the flip side, surrender is the most beautiful word I know and is the aspiration of my life.

I know I cannot win until I surrender. The mission will fail unless and until I surrender. While my prideful self resists surrender, my love for Christ demands it of me. So, in a paradoxical sense, I must refuse to surrender to ever stop surrendering to Jesus!
