How are you feeling these days? Are you excited and full of energy, or are you worn out and unsure of how to keep going? Life can seem a bit hopeless at times. We all get tired. With division and hatred being the rule of the day, it’s easy to feel a little lost. When your resolve is waning, remember, God is our strength. God did not mean for us to figure this all out on our own.
God created us to be in relationship with Him. When the world was perfect and new, The Lord would walk with Adam and Eve every evening. If humans needed Him in the middle of paradise, how much more do you imagine we need Him now?
The prophet Isaiah reminds us God gives strength to the weary (Isaiah 40:28-31). When we get tired, He will renew us. God is our strength. If we lean on Him, we won’t grow weary and will have the endurance we need to finish the work He has given us to do. As long as we are leaning on our strength, our wisdom, and our intellect, we will falter. We will run out of gas. We desperately need the strength of the Lord to carry us through this life.
The world wants us to get tired. They want us to give up. We’re in the way of everything they want to do. A world without God is a world without consequence. Humans don’t like consequences. We want to do what we want, when we want, and where we want. The truth gets in the way of all that. Jesus died to save humanity from where that sort of selfish and destructive thinking leads.
To live in opposition to selfishness, pride, and evil is exhausting. It’s all become so prevalent in our world. But Paul tells us to stand firm in the faith, to be strong, and to do everything in love (I Corinthians 16:13-14). It’s hard work. Sometimes discouragement and fatigue win. We may even wonder if it’s all worth it. In those times, it is good to remember we have nothing on this earth but God. We know the things of this world will pass away. But God is our strength, our portion forever (Psalm 73:25-26). We need nothing but Him, and He offers all the strength we need.
In Psalm 29:11, David tells us the Lord gives His people strength and peace. When we are weak, God is our strength. So, when we are weak, we are stronger than ever (2 Corinthians 12:10)! When we are at our weakest, that’s when we are finally ready to surrender everything to God. We know we can’t do it. At that moment, if we submit to Jesus as our Lord, we will find not only the strength to continue but also a peace that surpasses all logic and reason (Philippians 4:7). Our lives will finally make sense because they will be all about Him instead of ourselves.
If you are feeling helpless, know you are not. If hope is eluding you, simply look into the loving eyes of Jesus. On our own, we’ll never make it. But God is our strength. He will hold you, carry you, and fight for you. The battle is never lost because the war is already won. Don’t fret. Don’t be afraid. God is our strength, and He is more than enough.
