In a world of compromise and so-called “tolerance”, we must remember there is no neutral position in Christ. We are for Him or against Him (Mark 9:40; John 3:36), and we can never stand in a middle that does not exist. Today’s culture regards those who accept whatever is popular as the favored class. Those of us who push back against the tide of perversion, selfishness, and immorality are branded as outcasts and even criminals.
Light has no fellowship with darkness (II Corinthians 6: 14; Ephesians 5:11), so we must abstain from drinking from the fountain of popular thought. The temptation to go with the flow is great, but if you are truly for Christ, you must stand firm on His Word and obey His commands.
We find a lot of fence-sitters in our local churches. They are careful not to offend anyone and remain neutral when conversations get uncomfortable or heated. Again, there is no neutral position in Christ. If we love Him, we will honor Him by not compromising to fit in or get along. Compromise is not the model Jesus gave to us when walking this earth. He was kind, patient, and compassionate, but not once did He compromise His mission. Not once did He engage in the sinful conversations and deeds of the day’s culture.
If you want to live for Jesus, you must stand for His truth. The Word of God is our anchor. It holds us to Him. Whenever a new idea comes into culture, we should check it against scripture. Does it align with the Lord’s teachings? Does it contradict any of the truth found in the Bible? If it does, we must reject it, no matter how popular it may be. This is going to be uncomfortable for many. You’re not used to standing against the fierce rhetoric of the day. The time has come when you must.
Being faithful to God’s laws in this world will cost you something. It may cost you a lot. You may lose your job, your family, and your health. It doesn’t matter. All that matters is Jesus. Everything else is worthless garbage (Isaiah 64:6; Philippians 3:8-9). Your only other choice is to reject Jesus. Remember, there is no neutral position. You cannot “sort of” follow Him. You are all in or you will be left out. So many so-called Christians are misled. They think they have salvation, but what they have is misplaced hope in a cheapened faith sold to them by someone who is probably equally deceived.
John tells us many will appear to leave the faith, but the truth is they were never saved at all (1 John 2:19). They liked the sound of it and reveled in the promise of eternal bliss. But they never knew Jesus. They never surrendered their life to Him. Don’t let that be you. If you find yourself choosing a neutral position in your faith, it’s time to choose your side. Will you be with Christ or against Him? You have no other choices. There is no neutral position. Choose Jesus. Do it today.
