These days may not be the most evil the world has ever seen, but they certainly must rank as some of the most wicked in history. As the prophet Isaiah wrote centuries ago, the world is calling evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). The truth is under assault, and without a foundation of truth, we have no anchor. We will drift aimlessly and hopelessly into eternity.
For years, the church would stand in the gap of evil and false teaching, but no longer. In some revolting instances, the church has become complicit in many of the lies being told by our culture. Just as disturbing is the apathy of professing Christians to what is happening around them.
This is not the first time a foundation of truth has been rejected and abandoned. Roughly 1700 years after God created the earth and everything in it, evil was enveloping the entire world. The Lord saw man’s every thought was bent toward evil. The wickedness so grieved God that He sent a flood to wipe almost every living thing off the face of the planet (Genesis 6:5-7). Our world doesn’t seem so far away from this. And yet, Christians carry on as if everything is okay.
Jesus taught the last days would be just like the days of Noah, people going about their lives oblivious to the judgment at their doorstep (Luke 17:26-30). In an instant, God could judge and wipe us out. Professing followers of Christ are turning a blind eye to what is happening around them, assuming everything will turn out fine. They ignore the warnings and plain teachings of Scripture. They don’t have a foundation of truth because decades of improper preaching from our pulpits have left them weak and ineffective in the battle we are facing.
Compromise is not the answer. Everything you do on earth to secure your life is useless. Only when you surrender everything to Christ will you be safe (Luke 17:33). Trying to go along with culture, to keep your head down and sneak by unnoticed is not an option for true followers of Jesus. If you are willfully indulging in the ways of this world, you don’t love Jesus (1 John 2:15). You must choose between a foundation of truth or a foundation of lies. Wake up to what’s going on. There’s no such thing as a neutral Christian. You are either for Christ or you are against Him (Matthew 12:30).
Our world is sick and in desperate need of Jesus. The judgment of God is coming and none will escape it. Without Christ, our destiny is Hell, forever separated from God. We may not be able to stem the tidal wave of evil in this world, but we can help save some from the wrath of God. Stand firm on the truth of God’s Word. Be a shining light others will see. Do not engage in the ways of this world and never hesitate to say the name of Jesus. He is the only source of truth and the only hope for humanity.
