Your whole life is about one thing — living for Jesus. It’s not about what you achieve, who you become, or what you do. The only thing that matters is Jesus. We live as if it’s all about us, but that is the height of delusion. Nothing you or I do will ever count for anything outside of what we do for Christ. Everything you accumulate goes to someone else when you die.
Nothing goes with you, not even your reputation. Everything gets left behind. Nothing we build on earth will survive. Only what we do for Jesus will transcend time and span eternity. This life is not about you, it’s all about Him. This whole life, unless you live it for Jesus, is meaningless.
How is that for a cheery beginning? Life is meaningless, so why even bother? Life is only meaningless if you live it for anything or anyone other than Christ. With Jesus, your whole life takes on meaning and purpose. You live for Him and not yourself. If you live for yourself, you will die in disappointment. There is nothing else for you. All you have is gone in a moment and you face an eternity without the love of Jesus. Death brings emptiness, darkness, and eternal pain. Thankfully, when you live for Jesus, your eternity changes. Instead of despair, you have hope. Love replaces hate, and purpose replaces meaninglessness.
History regards Solomon as the wisest man who ever lived, and he wrote long ago that “everything is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). Solomon understood you could spend your whole life seeking pleasure, riches, and fame, but die empty and unfulfilled. He examined and indulged in all this world has to offer only to conclude that the only worthwhile pursuit in life is to fear God and obey His commands (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
To live your life for Christ is the only thing that will bring meaning to the madness of this world. When we do everything for His glory instead of our entertainment and comfort, we discover life as it is meant to be. Jesus created us to worship and glorify Him. It is the purpose of every man, woman, and child on this planet. A life of pride and selfishness counts for nothing. At best, we are masking our pain and emptiness all our days. Only Jesus heals. Only He comforts, and only He can save our souls (John 14:6).
Your whole life comes down to what you do with Jesus. If we live our lives in obedience to His Word, if we spend our days in love with Him, we never have to fear living a meaningless life. We don’t have to fear anything at all because Jesus has already overcome every obstacle we might ever face (John 16:33). He is everything to us, and everything else is meaningless. Don’t waste your whole life chasing after things that will never satisfy you. Instead, spend it in vicious pursuit of the lover of your soul. My life, your life, is all about Jesus or it’s about nothing at all.
