No matter what season you find yourself in life, your objective is to glorify God. It’s why we are here. Nothing else matters aside from bringing glory to God. No amount of depression, heartache, tragedy, or hardship changes this equation. Nothing excuses us from doing what God created us to do. From birth, the highest calling of our life is to glorify God. It’s a simple fact almost everyone ignores.
We want to live for ourselves, which is a nice way of saying we want to glorify ourselves. Do you know who else decided that was the way to live? Satan! When we glorify anyone or anything other than Christ, we are agreeing with Satan that his way is better. That’s uncomfortable and blunt, but it is the truth.
We confuse the issue when we take our eyes off the amazing beauty of God and put them on our problems and circumstances. When you spend too much time focusing on yourself, eventually you are going to find heartbreak, despair, and depression. We live in a broken world. There is nothing this world offers that won’t fade and fail to satisfy. Given enough time, everything proves temporary. Those you love will leave you someday, if only in death. Your prized possessions will rust, break down, or rot. Inflation or economic collapse will claim the money in which you find such security. Only what we do for Christ will stand on the day of judgment (1 Corinthians 3:10-15; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
When things are going so well that you feel like pinching yourself, give glory to God from whom every blessing flows (James 1:17; 1 Chronicles 29:12-14). There is no good that doesn’t find its source in God. Never take good times for granted, but give Him immense praise for it all. Never stop thanking and praising our great God.
Conversely, when everything is going wrong and life feels upside down and inside out, praise the Lord! You still have breath. You still can tell someone about the unsurpassable love of Jesus. Praise Him for building your character, showing His faithfulness, and for the testimony He is creating for you. Praise Him for how many people you will help on the other side of your trials.
I know, it’s weird to praise God when everything is going wrong. It seems a bit fanatical, doesn’t it? That’s okay. Who or what else is worth being fanatical about than Jesus? There is no one like Him. His love is everlasting, His faithfulness unwavering. Our God is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The beauty of Christ is incomparable. His love for us is both unconditional and without end. He is our fortress and our shield, our Rock in whom we take refuge (Psalm 18:2; Psalm 91:2).
No matter your season, God is there in all His majesty. He alone is worthy of our praise, and His worthiness does not change based on your happiness. Our lives are full because His Spirit fills us. We want for nothing because we are co-heirs with Jesus of the eternal Kingdom. Tell someone about the awesomeness of our King. Don’t focus on your life in this temporary world. Focus on the splendor of our glorious God. Give praise and honor to Him in everything you do and in every word you speak. Do this and every season of life will be your best season.
