Sponsor a Child through Compassion

Sponsoring a child in another country is one of the easiest and most tangible ways we can be the hands and feet of Jesus in our world. As I have stated often, nearly half the world exists on less than $2 a day. That’s three billion people making approximately $730 per year. Can you imagine trying to buy groceries for a year on that kind of salary? How about healthcare, clothing or shelter? Most of the world cannot perceive our riches, and I suggest that we cannot fathom their poverty. We have been entrusted with great wealth in order that we might use it to care for the hungry, the poor, and the sick (Luke 12:48).

Made in the Image of God

I was recently challenged by the question, “What does it mean to be made in God’s image” (Genesis 1:27)?  If we truly were living as the beings we were created to be, how would God’s image manifest itself in our daily lives? I came up with a list of things that would be true in my life. It was an interesting and revealing exercise, making me very aware of where I may be missing the mark. Being made in the image of God should dictate our actions and have a profound influence on the way we treat others. Below is the list I came up with of what my life will look like when I am reflecting His image. I’ve turned these into a set of mantra’s I read each morning to set my attitude for the day.

If You’re Not Dead, You’re Not Done

what does it mean to be a disciple,storied interactions,tim sherfy,half time,second acts

At a recent conference, I heard Craig Groeschel say, “If you’re not dead, you’re not done”. Many of us think that we have missed the boat, missed our calling, and missed our opportunity to do great things for the Lord. We spend half our lives trying to determine what God has called us to do, and then spend the second half lamenting the fact we didn’t discover it earlier. The Bible contains examples of God’s servant’s that were young, middle-aged, and elderly. It makes no distinction between age and ability to be used for the purposes of God. I think our reasoning of being too old is nothing more than an excuse for our inactivity.

On August 2nd, eighteen year old Kelsey Williams left the comforts of home to serve Christ in Africa (Jinja and Fort Portal, Uganda) for two weeks. This is an extraordinary commitment for anyone, let alone a young woman of her age. Kelsey boldly lives out her passion to serve Jesus. She was kind enough to answer some questions and allow me to share her answers with the readers of this blog.

Leaving Your Mark

July 16, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

legacy,put God first,make a difference,meaningful work,meaningful life

Every day begins pretty much the same as the last. For most of us, our lives are filled with routines that breed mediocrity and spiritual malaise. We go to bed too late, get up too early, eat the wrong kinds of food and go to work some place that is less than what we had always dreamed. Into this morass of anonymity we struggle to make a name for ourselves. If we’re really lucky, we might just do something significant for God along the way. Is this how life is supposed to be? Do you truly believe that it was to this that Jesus called you?
