Gaining Momentum

July 19, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

For too long the Western church has rested on its laurels and has become fat and lazy. I am not speaking to those too few exceptions to the rule. I am speaking to the vast majority of American Christians who are content to go to church on Sunday and live the rest of their lives in pursuit of the American dream. We have bought into the lie that material success is proof of God’s blessing on our lives.

Bicycling down hill

God never promised wealth to those who loved Him. This teaching goes beyond the so-called “health and wealth” theology, and has in fact become embedded in the church at large.

Hero Worship

July 17, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

Most of us grew up having heroes; many of us still have them even as adults. Jesus Christ is often named as the hero of politicians and religious leaders, but have you ever given thought to what that really means? What qualifies someone to be a hero?

Stop Wasting Time

July 14, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

I read a great analogy that is credited to Christian comedian Robert G. Lee. He said to imagine you had a bank account that someone deposited $86,400 in every day. Each morning it would be cleared out and another $86,400 would be credited. Whatever you didn’t spend that day would be lost. The question is, would you find a way to spend the money each day, or would you waste some of it by leaving it in the account?

Clock

Each day we are each given 86,400 seconds with which to live our lives. We are not allowed to carry any over until the next day, nor can we borrow from tomorrow to get a little more time for today.

Discouragement

July 12, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

It’s only natural that we will become discouraged from time to time. Sometimes a series of events throws us into a tailspin. Sometimes it’s as simple as hearing a song on the radio. Whatever the reason, discouragement is a reality we all have to face.

Dejected Person

However, we must deal with it quickly or it will derail us from engaging in the mission of Christ. Following Jesus is about maintaining a sense of purpose; discouragement, if allowed to linger, will rob us of our focus. [Read more…] about Discouragement

Defining Your Brand

July 10, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

In my coaching business, there is a lot of emphasis on developing your personal brand. It’s important to define who you are and what people can expect from you at all times. As a follower of Christ, I think it’s equally important to be conscious of our brand in the eyes of the world. We need to be certain we are accurately portraying the message of Jesus in everything that we do.

Person in contemplative prayer

You shouldn’t need a sign around your neck to tell people what you stand for in life. Rather, if we are living consistently with the mission of Christ, it will be self-evident. [Read more…] about Defining Your Brand
