A recent survey conducted by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found only 37% of pastors in America have a biblical worldview. Let that sink in for a moment. If you wonder why the world seems to be in the death spiral that it is, we need to look no further for an answer. Looking at the converse answer, 63% of pastors in America do not see the Bible as the inerrant and infallible Word of God. How else can you reconcile the fact only 37% of pastors consider the world around them through the lens of Biblical authority?
To have a biblical worldview is to hold to the truth of the authority of God’s Word over any standards or opinions of man. If pastors won’t teach their congregations how to respond biblically to the world around them, how will those congregants understand how to live godly lives?
If you are hoping the traditional family will save us from this sad state of affairs, you’ll be even more distressed to learn the results. The survey of professing Christian parents found only 2% of those parents held a Christian worldview. Again, looking at the converse, this means 98% of children growing up in “Christian” households are not being taught a biblical worldview. This is both tragic and devastating.
This means we have lost the next generation. With only 2% being taught God’s Word is the ultimate authority in all things, the battle is all but over in America. George Barna, the director of the survey, said in a recent interview on “The Christian Worldview” podcast that he does not believe there is any coming back from this. America has ceased being a nation based on Christianity and is now a fully secular society.
Maybe George Barna is wrong. Perhaps the Church in America is indeed a sleeping giant about to awaken. With numbers like those revealed in the survey, it better do so in a hurry. The American church was once seen as a light on a hill, an example to all the world. But decades of compromise and sloth have left it weak, ineffective, and ill-prepared for what is coming. Politicians will not solve this problem. Hiding away and waiting things out is not an option. We can no longer leave this up to someone else. If every single true disciple of Christ does not stand up and shout the truth of God’s Word and declare Him as the only and final authority, then the church and country we have known all our lives will be no more.
This isn’t a cheery message. I probably lost most readers a couple of paragraphs ago. The falsely converted and “casual” Christian doesn’t want to hear this. They were sold a cheap and easy salvation and have no stomach to fight. The rest of us, those who refuse to submit to the spirit of this age and stand resolutely on the authority of God as revealed in His Word, are in for the hardest years of our lives. We never believed it would come to this in our lifetime. And yet, we are complicit. This happened on our watch. Now we must face the consequences.
We now live in a post-Christian nation. Truth is now considered lies, and good is seen as evil (Isaiah 5:20). It is here we must take our stand, whatever may come. Get ready. Study your Bible with relentless passion. Pray with unbridled fervor. But never give up because our hope is in Jesus, and in the end, He will not let our hope be in vain (Romans 5:1-5). He is the Victor, and we are victorious in Him (Romans 8:35-39). It’s going to be a bumpy ride from here, harder than we’ve ever known or expected. But our God is with us. We are never alone. Those who remain faithful will reign with Christ for all eternity.
