In our day, it seems as if everyone is searching for truth. They seek their truth, social truth, religious truth, and every other kind of truth. It isn’t unique to this generation. From the beginning of time, people have sought the truth. More often than not, they are seeking truth to validate their way of thinking and living. The truth is not hard to find. It isn’t some nebulous construct or abstract notion.
The truth is a person and His name is Jesus Christ. All who genuinely seek Him will find Him (Matthew 7:7). There isn’t a lack of truth to be found, there is a lack of people willing to obey the truth once they find Him. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Stop seeking truth. The search is over. Jesus is the truth, and He is waiting to be found by you.
Seeking truth is an exercise in futility if you are looking anywhere other than Jesus. He isn’t hard to find, but until you surrender everything to Him, He is difficult to obey. It’s not that we can’t find the truth, it’s that we don’t want to accept the truth when we find it. We want the truth to bend to our whims and ideals instead of the other way around. That’s not how truth works. Truth simply is, and we must conform to it. To think otherwise is delusional. Truth isn’t something we must seek after, but rather someone we must obey (John 14:15). Whether or not we like that does not change the truth.
If we were the source of all knowledge, we would not be seeking truth. We know the truth is out there, but we aren’t willing to accept it when we find Him. It’s where the ridiculous notion of “my truth” comes from; we want to define the truth and yet still call ourselves “truth seekers.” One doesn’t seek that which they’ve defined. It’s an illogical and absurd position to hold.
For all those seeking truth, I have the best possible news. The Truth is seeking you! The heart of the Gospel is Jesus came to seek the lost, and not only to seek them, but to save them (Luke 19:10). Those who find Jesus find the truth, and that truth sets them free (John 8:32). We are no longer slaves to our lusts and desires, but free to love and live in the light of God’s perfect plan and glory.
His truth is better than your “truth” will ever be because He is truth. Your truth is a made-up pretense meant to shield you from harm and consequences. Real truth demands action and accountability. Truth is always the same, not blown by the winds of culture. We all seek truth because we instinctively know there is something bigger than ourselves, some standard by which we must measure ourselves. There’s a hole in our hearts that needs to be filled. Only truth can fill it. If you are seeking truth, look no further than Jesus. He is the truth, making Him all the truth you will ever need.
