As you go throughout your day, how often do you pause and recognize that right now counts forever? Every idle word, careless act, and mindless thought is part of your eternal record. Because God created us to give Him glory, every moment of our lives comes with a responsibility. Our lives are not our own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), no matter how much we think otherwise.
The only reason any of us is drawing breath today is so we might bring glory to Jesus Christ. Your comfort, success, and happiness are all secondary considerations. We’ve spent our entire lives getting this not just backward, but very wrong. The purpose of our lives is not to get as much as we can out of this life, but to give as much of ourselves as we can to the mission and work of Christ.
What you are doing this very minute matters because right now counts forever. You’ll never get this moment back. What you do with it is your only chance. One shot, that’s all we ever get. Every minute not spent living for Christ is a minute wasted. It’s a minute burned beyond recognition, irretrievable and irreversible. We must feel the weight of this moment.
Every minute of our lives is building on top of one another to weave our story. You might call it our witness or our testimony because it is all we will have to present to the holy and eternal Judge when we meet Him face to face (2 Corinthians 5:10). Right now counts forever because what we do right now is indicative of what our eternity will look like. If we spend our time bowing before the eternal Lord of the Universe, He will welcome us into His presence when our time on earth is done (Matthew 25:23). If we deny Him by our words and deeds, He will deny us before His Father (Matthew 10:32-33). What is the testimony you are building?
Never think Jesus doesn’t see what you are doing when no one else is around. Right now counts forever because God is always watching (Proverbs 15:3). He doesn’t sleep or get distracted (Psalm 121:3-4). Every moment He is working to hold all things together (Colossians 1:17). He is our example, showing us every moment matters.
Satan fools us into believing this life is about us, and that the point is to maximize our pleasure and happiness. The truth is this life is part of a spiritual war that has been going on since before time began (Ephesians 6:12). There are no timeouts in battle. When your life is on the line, every second counts.
Wake up sleeper because it’s time to run to the battle (Ephesians 5:14; 1 Peter 5:8). This life is not about you. It’s not about your pleasure. It’s not about doing what makes you happy. This life is about serving God every moment you’re alive. Every second of every hour of every day is to be used for the sake of God’s Kingdom. God created you for a purpose (Ephesians 2:10). It’s time to do the work because right now counts forever.
