Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Don’t Forget the Good News

October 14, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

In a world inundated with bad news, don’t forget the good news! The good news is, of course, the gospel of Jesus Christ. No matter how much is changing in the world, the good news is Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). While everything around us may feel like the world is constantly shifting like sand beneath our feet, the good news is our feet are actually secure and planted on the rock of Jesus (Matthew 7:24-27).

These storms and trials will not sweep us away. This will not be the end of our story. For those who proclaim Jesus as Lord, our eternity is already written. There will be no surprise ending. The future is sure and ends with us in the arms of Jesus. That is truly good news!

Urgency

October 11, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

I’ve talked about this many times before, but I don’t think we get it yet. Perhaps we get it intellectually, but anecdotal observation of the lives of others and myself tells me we haven’t ingested it. We need to live with urgency. We must turn to Jesus now. Our best intentions to surrender our lives are nothing more than that if we never act on them. I certainly am speaking to myself here, as well as all my brothers and sisters in Christ.

As I survey the world around me, I continue to see Christians living a nominal faith that is more concerned with their well-being than it is for the lost, the Church, and the Kingdom of God. Though we claim to surrender all, we still live for ourselves. Our time isn’t given to our King, it’s given to entertainment and pursuing comfort. We eat and drink while tomorrow the lost will die.

Misplaced Hope

October 7, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

With the state of the world today, it’s easy to lose hope. But that’s only true if your hope is in the wrong place. If you were looking for hope in the life you thought you’d have, you may be out of luck for a while. But that’s not where we should place our hope. We suffer from a misplaced hope if our hope is not in Jesus. He is our true hope because we know how the story ends.

We know nothing will ever defeat His Church. What we need to do is take a long view of things. What we do today can be helpful for other Christians 200 years from now. It’s not about our lives right now. As people who are always looking forward to the return of Jesus, we should also be always working for the future of His Kingdom, not ours.

Discernment

October 4, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Philippians 1:9-11 tells us we should never stop growing in love and discernment. The passage goes on to tell us this is important so we can approve the good things and stay away from the bad. The goal of which is to be blameless when Christ returns. All of us want to be blameless before Christ, and none of us want to be caught unaware when He returns.

If you should fear anything in life, fear what Christ’s return will find you doing. Now, if we live our lives wholly devoted to Him, we won’t have to worry about it. If we let compromise come into our lives, who knows what Jesus may find us doing. We only get one shot to do this right.

Your Last Day

September 30, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

What if you knew today was your last day on earth? It’s a good question to ask ourselves regularly, if not every day. Would your routine be different? What would you change? If you knew by this time tomorrow you would stand face to face with Jesus Christ, would you be proud or ashamed of the last twenty-four hours?

Few enjoy thinking about death. As long as we’re healthy, there’s a tendency to feel invincible. But time runs out for everyone. We all have a limited amount of time at our disposal, and none of us know exactly how limited our share is. So, regardless of whether you wish to think about your death, it is coming. We may as well prepare for it.
