Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Discipleship

No More Excuses

As a life coach, it never ceases to amaze me how many excuses people come up with to explain why they aren’t doing what they know they should.  The truth is, until you are willing to change your life, your life will never change. There is an obvious correlation to our walk with Jesus. If we aren’t willing to sacrifice our accustomed comforts or are unwilling to give up our social standing, we’ll never experience the wonder of everything God has for us. Too many of us try and follow Christ while still keeping one foot firmly planted on the road of cultural normalcy.

Every Breath

November 18, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

I just returned from a conference where I heard Francis Chan speak. He emphasized taking a deep breath and then realizing it could be the last one you ever get. Our lives are so finite. Most of us don’t think a lot about death.  The younger you are, the less you will think about it and the further away it will seem. While this statistically makes sense, we have all heard of those who were cut down in the prime of their life. An unexpected diagnosis or accident brings what once seemed so far away into the present reality of our here and now.

Comfortable Faith

November 11, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

I recently heard Ken Davis make the statement that, “There is no such thing as a comfortable faith.” How many of us believe that, or at least live as if it were true? It reminds me of a question A.W. Tozer asked years ago, “Have the saints of God joined the mad scramble for security?” Modern day Christianity looks awfully comfortable, and it seems few are willing to run towards the battle. We want the benefits of Heaven without having to go through Hell to get them. This may resonate with our modern ears, but it’s not the life Jesus modeled for His disciples.

Life’s Three Alternatives

November 7, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

C.S. Lewis,misery,miserable,god's will,narrow path,discipleship,how then shall we live

C.S. Lewis once said that we have three alternatives in life: we can be God, we can be like God, or we can be miserable. As brilliant as Lewis was, it is obvious that in reality we have only two alternatives. We can choose to be like God or we can be miserable. The option to be God, as I know Lewis was fully aware, is not a real option.  We know anyone claiming to be God is either a liar or a lunatic. Only one man in all of History could make this claim and have it be true. So unless you can raise yourself from the dead, you are left with the alternatives of living a life that imitates God as best you can, or living a life of misery.

The Currency of Time

November 4, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

A great many of us spend the majority of our lives pursuing money. It’s not that we necessarily are ruled by it (though many are), but it is accepted as one of the basic needs of life. We need money to purchase the things we need to survive. Life is so much more than money and the endless pursuit of it can easily cause you to trust it, rather than God, to provide for your needs. There is a higher currency with which we should be far more obsessed. That is the currency of time. Time is far more finite, and infinitely more valuable, than money. How we spend our time reveals where our true treasure lies.
