What does it look like to follow Jesus?

June 25, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

practical ways to follow Jesus, looking like Jesus, living like Jesus, serving others

Despite being the wealthiest people to ever walk the face of the earth, we still face daily struggles that interfere with our desire to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Most of us do not struggle with knowing where we will find our next meal or have to face being tortured because of our faith. Still, each of our lives brings their own set of challenges that can discourage us. Usually it becomes difficult to remember for whom we have pledged to live. When we do remember, it is a struggle to understand what it looks like to follow Jesus. I’ve got three practical applications for your life to help you put some discipline behind your devotion.

Waiting for Your Moment

May 14, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Why wait, your time is now, what are you waiting for

One day, something will happen that will change your life. Out of the blue, everything will suddenly fall into place and make your entire existence make sense in an instant. Someday, someone will emerge from the shadows and sweep you away to a life of which you have only dreamed. You know that moment will come, so you sit and wait, confident in your assumption that something great will happen to you. But what if it doesn’t? What if all your waiting is just, well, waiting? Do you want to spend all your life waiting for your moment to arrive, or would you rather create untold moments by acting in the here and now?

The Key to Successful Living

May 10, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

success,living successfully,how to be successful

If you want to successfully be a true follower of Jesus, someone who dedicates their entire life to His purposes, I have found there is only one thing you need to do. To love Him with all your heart and to find success in life requires one simple lifestyle change. The key to successful living then is to consistently decide to do the right thing, to intentionally choose to do that which brings you closer to your goal, not further away. It’s simple, but not easy, to accomplish this in your life. It merely requires discipline and a conscious choice to do so.

Running Out of Time

April 30, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

urgency,wasting time,running out of time

I write a lot on this topic, but from what I see in my own life and the lives of the Church at large, we’re simply not getting it. We are running out of time. Every moment we spend engaged in doing something other than for the Kingdom is a moment forever lost. It’s a moment that might just cost someone their eternal salvation. While we are content to watch the latest movie, surf the web, check Facebook, or feed our faces, time is ticking off the clock forever.

Putting God First

April 26, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first, putting god first, how to put god first in your life, putting god first in your life, put god first, putting god first in our lives, how to put god first, put god first in your life, what does putting god first mean

Ask almost any Christian at church on Sunday what their priorities are, and they will instinctively tell you that God is first and family second. Saying so simply does not make it true. If God were first in the lives of all who proclaimed to know Him, our world would not be in the mess it is today. For that matter, if family was indeed the second priority, we would not find the divorce rate among Christians to be statistically the same as that of non-Christians (The Christian Post). We have been taught what we’re supposed to say, but there is an absolute disconnect between our lips and our reality.
