Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

God's Kingdom

Stand Firm

June 6, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

As the days continue to grow more dark and evil, it becomes increasingly urgent for the Church to stand firm and hold its ground, advancing as we have the opportunity. The darkness has been pushing hard against the light and gaining ground we would have never thought possible in the past. Meanwhile, the churches in the land seem content to appease the sinful advances in hopes of everyone getting along.

Jesus did not come to make a way for everyone to get along. He didn’t sacrifice His life so darkness could coexist with light. He died and rose again to provide a way out of the darkness and death. We are called out of the dark, not to accommodate it. The Word of God does not change. It is steadfast, and it is final.

Whatever You Asked

May 12, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

What if God would give you whatever you asked from Him? What sort of things would you pray for, and therefore possess? This isn’t far-fetched, right? Didn’t Jesus promise to give us whatever we asked for (John 15:16)? It is fascinating how taking only half a verse, and out of context, can quickly morph into a presumed truth taught by so many.

It’s not just the obvious Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith teachers who push this nonsense. I’ve heard it from supposed evangelical preachers as well. We’ll dive into the context of what Jesus said, but first, it’s worth taking a moment to answer my initial question: “If God gave you whatever you asked, what would you possess and how would your life be different?”

Salvation

May 2, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Reading through the “MacArthur New Testament Commentary” on Philippians, I came across this comment from Pastor MacArthur: “Tragically, evangelicalism today seeks to remove the effects of preaching on sin and repentance, holiness and humility, in an effort to make the message more acceptable to fallen, depraved human nature. A growing number of churches intentionally play down the biblical elements of salvation and the demands of true discipleship.”

Tragic indeed. Even more frightening is the fact I have witnessed this trend in churches over the past 20-30 years. No longer do you hear the old “fire and brimstone messages”. Is it because we are better off now and less in need of a Savior than in the days past? Far from it, I would say. The need has not waned, but the conviction has.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

January 20, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the world is a little crazy these days. The laws, morality, and ethics taught by the Bible are under a withering attack. This is nothing new, of course. Every generation has seen their faith tested. There have been times throughout history where the Church has been forced into hiding. Indeed, in many countries around the world, this is still the case today.

But after nearly a century of religious freedom in most of the Western world, this feels new to us. Unprecedented. We are seeing people rebel against God in very public and blatant ways. History is being rewritten to accommodate the sinful desires of a few whose sole purpose is to serve their own pleasures rather than those of God.

Live a Legacy

January 17, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

I was reminded of a truth recently: you can’t leave a legacy unless you first live a legacy. The only legacy worth leaving recognizes Jesus as the Creator and Lord of all things, the only Savior of our souls. What else would you like people to say about you other than, “They loved Jesus more than anything on earth”?

That’s a legacy worth leaving. Such a legacy won’t be left unless we discipline our lives in the here and now to look like Jesus. Every day adds or subtracts to or from the legacy you will leave. Unless we live as Jesus did and walk in obedience to His commands, everything we leave will be worthless.
