Jesus never told us to create a Christian nation, impose our standards on nonbelievers, or preserve a particular culture. He told us to win over the lost.”

That is the mission of every follower of Christ. We are to live our lives in a way that draws others to Him. We are to tell others about His love, His beauty, and His character. Everything we do and every word we say should be to point others to Jesus.

A Radically Uncommon Life

I want to live a radically uncommon life. I want to live so differently everyone takes notice. I don’t care if they love me or hate me, I just don’t want them to be able to ignore me. I say this not because I want to be noticed, but so Jesus would be glorified. I want my life to be so different people must acknowledge I am living for a purpose different from that of societal norms. Too often we as Christ followers look no different than our contemporaries.

We allow ourselves to be so assimilated within our culture no one would ever know we live for a higher calling and purpose. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. Peter, one of Jesus’s closest friends, said we are a chosen people, called out of the darkness to walk in the light (1 Peter 2:9). Why do we insist on blending with the shadows when we have been called to shine gloriously?

Desperate for Jesus

Are you desperate for Jesus? Are you pursuing Him with a reckless abandon, to the exclusion of all other pursuits? If not, why not? What is it in your life that is more important than Christ? These are sobering questions we must all ask ourselves every day. The truth is most of us probably do not spend our days desperate for Jesus.

We claim to love Him, say we devote our lives to Him, but how are those things playing out in your life? If you’re anything like me, there is scant evidence you are desperate for Jesus. We’re desperate for success. We’re desperate for comfort and security. We may even be desperate in our pursuit of a mate. But desperate for Jesus? I don’t think so.

I Don’t Matter

It amazes me to realize I have unsurpassable worth in the eyes of God. I get that. But when it comes to His kingdom, I don’t matter. This thing is all about God, and when the focus is anywhere else, the whole thing goes a bit sideways. I don’t matter, only Jesus. This doesn’t make me irrelevant. It simply brings perspective. God could do this whole thing without you or me, but He has chosen to include us in His plans.

He doesn’t need us to be His hands and feet, He desires us to be His hands and feet. This is a tremendous honor and responsibility. It changes the way we see the world and the reason we get up each day.

Stewarding Your Words

During some recent study, I was struck with a concept I had inexplicably never considered before. While I talk a lot about stewarding our resources of money and time, I had never considered stewarding the resources of our words. As a writer, the thought struck me deeply. I see words as being an incredibly powerful resource we can use to further God’s Kingdom or to tear it down.

Actions indeed speak louder than words, but words can change minds, influence change, and impact the world in ways that little else can. Yet, how much thought do you give towards stewarding your words each day? How often do you intentionally measure your speech to be certain each word you speak makes the greatest impact for the Kingdom of God?
