Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Matthew

Be Encouraged

August 5, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

This world will try to break you. Satan is using everything in his power to cripple you and bring you to your knees. But be encouraged! Jesus has overcome the enemy, and the Spirit of the living God resides in you. There is nothing this world or any of the evil in it can do to stop the mission of Jesus from being fulfilled, and you have a vital role to play.

The last command given to us by our Lord was to go and tell everyone about Him (Matthew 28:18-20). At that moment, He commissioned everyone who would believe in Him to be missionaries of His gospel. You don’t have to travel around the world to fulfill this mission. You can be a missionary in your workplace, neighborhood, and even your grocery store.

Peace In Prayer

August 2, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

I don’t know about you, but sometimes, in the midst of praying, I can get a bit discouraged. It seems there is no end to the dire prayer requests popping up on my phone and in my email. I can’t say for certain whether things are worse than they have ever been, but I can say we are more aware of the problems Christians are facing than at any other time in history.

It can be overwhelming until we remember to Whom it is we are praying. God is not overwhelmed. He is not caught off-guard by what is going on in the world. Best of all, He remains the answer to all the problems and heartaches. The world may change, but our God never does.

What Is the Point?

July 12, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

While reading Christopher J. H. Wright’s fascinating book, “Knowing Jesus Through the Old Testament”, I became transfixed by something he wrote: “A destination is not just the end of a journey; it is also the point of a journey.” I can’t wait to meet Jesus face to face. It’s when all the frustrations, heartaches, and pain will find their purpose. Living for Jesus is a grand adventure. It is the highest privilege and greatest honor of life. It is a most remarkable journey.

Following Jesus isn’t easy. It can cost you your life, and it will cost you something along the way. But this is what makes it so exciting. We don’t know what is around the next corner. But we know Jesus will go with us. Jesus calls us to walk the narrow path to find Him (Matthew 7:13-14). This isn’t the easy, well-traveled way of the world. That road is predictable. No, we travel a path of great danger and uncertainty. The only thing we know for sure is where the path leads, and that is to Jesus Himself.

Do You Love Me More Than These?

July 5, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Many of us know the story of Jesus restoring Peter to fellowship with Him. We find the story in John 21:15-19, and much has been written and taught about this passage. The first question Jesus asked Peter was, “Do you love me more than these?” He may have been asking whether Peter loved Him more than the other disciples did, or perhaps if Peter loved Jesus more than he did his fellow disciples.

Another option is Jesus may have been asking Peter if He loved the nourishment of God over bodily nourishment (they were eating breakfast after a night of hard fishing). While people teach the first two more often, I’d like to focus on the third option. I think “Do you love me more than these?” is a good question for us all to ask every day.

Jesus is Better

June 24, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is better than anything for which you’d live. No amount of success, money, or fame compares to the richness of knowing Christ. Fame is fleeting, success dies with you, and money always winds up in the hands of someone else. Jesus is everlasting, life with Him is just getting started when we die, and He will never leave us (Deuteronomy 31:6). By every measure, Jesus is better. We spend our lives searching for some place to call home and for some experience to bring us happiness at last.

A house, no matter how splendid, will not necessarily make you feel at home, and happiness is not the same thing as joy. For those who serve Jesus, to be away from here is to be at home with Christ (2 Corinthians 5:6-8). In His arms, we will find true joy, something exponentially better than momentary happiness. And we will find worth and purpose that transcends our circumstances and what anyone else might think or say about us.
