Role Reversal

June 16, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

When the faces of hungry children live half a planet away, it is easy to forget them. When our schedules are tight and we are running late, it is a simple matter to look the other way when we see a homeless person with an outstretched hand. Rationalizations for not lending a hand to help are easy to come by when our lives are already stressed out and booked solid.

In theory, we know we should be helping those who are in need, the people who are less fortunate than ourselves. In practice, most of us struggle to carry on the mission of Christ. We are too wrapped up in our own problems and absorbed in our own lives. But let me ask a simple question: what if the person in need was you? [Read more…] about Role Reversal

Discovering God’s Will

June 7, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

As I have frequently espoused on this blog, we already know what the will of God is for our lives; we need simply read the Scriptures. We’ve often looked at the parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25 which gives a very clear, concise overview of the things we should be doing.

Discovering God's Will

The Bible is a large book, so I appreciate those sections that pack so much into a small portion of the text. However, we need to be careful and not simply stop with Matthew 25. Everything we need to know is revealed in God’s Word, so we do well to constantly survey the wisdom and instruction contained within its pages. [Read more…] about Discovering God’s Will

How do you imagine Jesus would respond to the site of starving children? Do you react in kind? It is important to step back and assess our responses to the needs all around us to be certain we are doing the work we have been called to do. [Read more…] about Are We Doing What Jesus Would?

This I Choose To Do

May 26, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

The name of this blog is a reminder of the determination I made several years ago. Even if no one else will follow in the footsteps of Jesus, even if I face great hardships because of my decision, still I will follow Christ at any cost. It’s a daily reminder of my purpose and my mission. Being perfectly honest, this is not always easy.

This i Choose To Do

I have my days where it seems that every choice I make is the wrong one, and I end up on my knees begging God to renew my spirit and make me more like Him. Still, my heart is determined to get up and move forward again. Where else can I turn except into the arms of the One who gives me life? [Read more…] about This I Choose To Do

Your Life’s Mission

May 22, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

Why are we here? What is God’s will for me? What should I do with my life? We’ve all asked some form of this question repeatedly throughout our lives. It wasn’t always this way in the church. There was a time when people knew exactly why they were here and what they were supposed to be doing with their time on the planet.

Target

There was no consternation as to which vocation to pursue. The early believers understood the message of Christ clearly, and it’s this very message that the church at large, and the Western church in particular, has so muddled over the past couple hundred years.
