The Currency of Time

A great many of us spend the majority of our lives pursuing money. It’s not that we necessarily are ruled by it (though many are), but it is accepted as one of the basic needs of life. We need money to purchase the things we need to survive. Life is so much more than money and the endless pursuit of it can easily cause you to trust it, rather than God, to provide for your needs. There is a higher currency with which we should be far more obsessed. That is the currency of time. Time is far more finite, and infinitely more valuable, than money. How we spend our time reveals where our true treasure lies.

The Measure of a Day

Each of us is responsible for what we put into and get out of a day. Circumstances will threaten our path and sway our courage. No one is required to lend a hand when we are in need. Comfort and success are elusive friends and we are more likely to encounter loneliness and defeat. Life in a fallen world is bitter, hard, and cold. Yet the potential for the fantastic and nearly unthinkable lurk within the shadows of each morning. It is up to us to decide whether or not to bring such possibilities to life or let them fade with the morning dew.

Fulfill Your Calling

June 24, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

why am I here,why are we here,life purpose,life mission,disciple,following Jesus,being on mission,living on purpose,purpose driven life

I recently read a blog post by Chris Brown, a pastor at North Coast Church. In it he said something that rocked the way I have programmed myself to think. Pastor Brown said we should, “Seek to fulfill your calling, not your potential.” For years I have read and taught that each of us should be doing everything we could in order to maximize our potential. I always thought that was what Emerson meant when he said, “Don’t die with your music still inside you.” Now I see that piece of wisdom a little differently. Think about Emerson’s quote in regards to calling, not potential. How might that change the way you live?

Unfinished Business

June 13, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Richard Stearns, unfinished, the hole in our gospel, why are we here, what's the meaning of life, finding your purpose, why did Jesus leave

Richard Stearns, President of World Vision and author of the highly recommended “The Hole in Our Gospel”, has a new book entitled, “Unfinished”. The premise of his new book is that followers of Christ waiting for the return of their Savior have work to do here on earth. Indeed, it’s the reason for our lives. If we are not pursuing the mission of Christ, doing the things He told us to, then what in the world are we doing here? Outside of Jesus, life is meaningless. Followers of Christ understand we have a purpose. We have work to do.

Make Each Day Count

May 27, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first, living for Jesus, what does it mean to be a christian

Perhaps the most important question we can ask ourselves each day is, “How will I make this day count for God’s purposes?” What if we each would start our mornings by asking that question? Before the coffee, before the shower, even before our feet hit the floor, we should be asking what Christ would have us do in the next twenty-four hours. How could we most look like Jesus as we go throughout our day? I wonder how different our lives might look if we would implement this small discipline. Indeed, consider how the world might be transformed if we would all live each day with such intentionality.
