There’s a certain appeal to abandoning everything for Christ. We’re compelled by the sheer enormity of the task. It can be alluring to so radically go against the flow of society. We will indeed stand out as a very peculiar people. That’s the vision many have when they embark on total surrender. The act is noteworthy and pleasing to God. Our deepest desire is to live our lives in a way that glorifies Jesus. So why do so many who choose to surrender all wind up going back to recover some of it for themselves?

Work Out Your Faith

The good news is that God has uniquely created you to do specific work for His Kingdom. The bad news is you probably aren’t doing it. It’s not that you intentionally rebel against Christ or His mission. You simply do not give it enough conscious thought. Have you ever taken the time to sit, think, and discover what role you play in the dance of eternity?

Too many of us float though life, trying to be good and loving people, all the while never making an impact for the Kingdom. What’s your purpose in this life? What are you doing to live out that purpose in a way that glorifies God and furthers His mission?

Excited to be a Christian?

Are you excited to be a Christian? Does the thought of serving Christ every day give you an utter sense of peace and purpose? For too many there is a palpable lack of excitement about the privilege of being a child of the King of the Universe. The conversations I have with fellow attendees at a weekend worship service rarely involve discussions about how amazing our God is. We sing songs of worship proclaiming His majesty, but our conversations generally devolve into the mundane or selfish.  Encountering fellow believers outside the “church” environment reveals similar results. We have the best news the world has ever heard.  We have the truth and the only hope. So why aren’t we more excited about it?

Mediocrity

mediocre,settling for average,being average,less than your best,giving up,potential

I’ve been struck lately with a preoccupation regarding the concept of mediocrity. It continues to come into my mind as I see evidence of it all around me and within my own life. Jesus gave His opinion of mediocrity when He said that He detested lukewarm faith. Using strong language, He said that mediocre Christians made Him vomit (Revelation 3:16). We’ve bought into a teaching that says as long as we say a certain prayer that Christ will welcome us into His Kingdom with open arms. But Jesus makes it plain that unless we have a “hot” faith, He will spit us out. This is not a picture of the open arms we have been taught to expect.

World Changer

It’s easy to fall into a couple of traps as we endeavor to follow Jesus. One is we can get caught up in the celebrity status of certain religious leaders and determine that once we reach their standing we will do great things for God. On the other end of the spectrum is the belief that we aren’t talented enough o ever be able to make a difference in the world, so we end up leading a quiet life keeping to ourselves. Both suppose that there are different classifications of Christians, some bound for fame and glory, others doomed to obscurity and insignificance. God created each of us for a unique purpose in order that we would accomplish the work He designed us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
