Before we begin, let me state a couple of things this article is not. It is not a commentary on the Covid mRNA shot. Intelligent people can and should look at all the research and findings to make their own decision on that. You don’t need me, the media, celebrities, or the government to tell you what to think or believe about such things. It is also not in any way to express medical opinions which I am eminently not qualified to discuss.
What I do want to talk about is the alarming number of otherwise healthy people who are dying suddenly. For our discussion, the cause of their death is irrelevant. As followers of Jesus, what should concern us is how many people, in the blink of an eye, are finding themselves in eternal Hell.
There are so many reports of people dying suddenly it is already becoming too easy to react with a sense of numbness. It is too common to be shocking. But with every one of these deaths comes the grim realization that these individuals are out of time to decide to surrender to Jesus. Sure, some of these people proclaimed Jesus as Lord before their death. That’s the best-case scenario. The alternative should break the heart of every believer.
In a world growing ever more hostile to the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ, it is imperative we redouble our efforts to tell everyone the good news. In the blink of an eye, it may be too late to reveal the truth to a lost soul. If you have been living your Christian life without a sense of urgency, these sudden deaths should serve as a wake-up call for us to be about the mission of Christ. No one has ever known the time of their death, but death seems to be speeding up the clock for too many young and healthy individuals. Unless we tell them about Jesus, their eternity is going to be without God and spent in an agony we can scarcely imagine.
Don’t get hung up on the debates or politics of these deaths. While it’s certainly important to get to the cause and hopefully discover a remedy for it, it is more important we make certain to help prepare as many people as possible to face the end of their life with confidence in what is to come. What matters more than being on the right side of a debate is being on the right side of Jesus.
In the blink of an eye, your life, or that of someone you love, could be over. Are you ready? Have you done everything you can to help those you know and love prepare for the eventuality that faces us all? Whether our remaining time on earth is minutes or years, the most important thing we can do for ourselves is to surrender our hearts completely to Jesus. The most important thing we can do for others is to share the good news of Jesus and help them understand their need for a Savior. Let others have their debates. As people of the cross, let us be about the mission of our Lord and King (Matthew 28: 18-20), and let us be about it with a renewed sense of urgency.
