Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Created for More

April 8, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

There is no doubt we were created for more. We were created to be more, love more, give more, serve more, and look more like Jesus. None of us are fulfilling our God-given potential. I know this because I don’t think any of us can fathom all God has in mind for us. He sees us as He created us to be. We see ourselves in light of our experiences, confidence, faith, and distorted perception of our skills and abilities. Because we are polluted by sin, we are blinded to the glorious reality designed for us by our Creator.

We are all experiencing God’s potential for our lives in varying degrees. Some are further along than others. Some haven’t even gotten started. But all of us have an enormous potential placed inside of us by the perfect and divine creator Jesus. He created us in the image of Himself. There are no limits when we surrender fully to Him.

Simplicity

April 4, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I’ve had an old Margaret Becker song (“Find Me”) stuck in my head for several days.  The lyric for the part playing on an endless loop in my head says, “I’m gonna give away my stereo / Give away my TV / I’m going back to essentials, a chair and a lamp / And the Book that You wrote to me”. What have we given up in our crazy distracting, device-happy, and electronics fueled world?

If you live in the West like me, I’m going to guess you have no shortage of “stuff”. You have no shortage of distractions. But what have we forgotten, and what have we lost? What if we took it back to essentials, just a chair, a lamp, and a Bible. Wouldn’t that be more than enough? Wouldn’t we actually be more fulfilled and happier?

Foolishness

April 1, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Since this post happens to be originally publishing on April Fool’s Day, I thought it to be a good time to discuss foolishness. Many who don’t know Christ think we who do are foolish to believe in a God we cannot see and can’t scientifically prove. I’ve always held it takes more faith to not believe in God than it does to believe in Him, so I think those without Jesus are more foolish than I am. To not believe in God means you are going to have to come up with explanations for everything in existence and to determine the reason for that very existence in the first place.

Jesus makes sense to me. None of the scientific (or even unscientific) explanations others have offered passes either the logical or believability test. I may not be able to prove the existence of God, but by the same token, no one has ever been able to prove He doesn’t exist either.

Our Mission

March 28, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Larry Osborne, author of, “Thriving in Babylon”, wrote, “Our great assignment is to go out into all the world and recruit Jesus followers, teaching them to obey everything he taught us. Jesus never told us to create a Christian nation, impose our standards on nonbelievers, or preserve a particular culture. He told us to win over the lost.”

That is the mission of every follower of Christ. We are to live our lives in a way that draws others to Him. We are to tell others about His love, His beauty, and His character. Everything we do and every word we say should be to point others to Jesus.

Demonstrating Our Faith

March 25, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Kyle Idleman has written another challenging book. This one is entitled, “Don’t Give Up”. Early on, Pastor Idleman makes the statement, “Faith doesn’t tend to be sedentary. It’s always sending us somewhere.” He follows this up by encouraging us to ask ourselves two questions: 1) “Am I following God in a way that requires faith?” 2) “Do I do anything at all in my life that requires courage and confidence?”

If you aren’t squirming a bit as you contemplate those questions, you are a better person than I. Since we are fellow sojourners in our quest to serve God with all our heart, mind, strength, and soul, I’m going to go ahead and assume those questions made you as uncomfortable as they did me.
