Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

He Chose to Save You

July 14, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

There is perhaps no greater beauty than the fact that God chose to save you. Out of the billions of people who have ever lived, He chose to save you. Let that sink in. How can we do anything except praise the Lord and fall on our face in thankfulness at this most astounding and irrational truth? So many will live their lives without Jesus and die with their sins unforgiven (John 8:24).

That could have been you or me. But for some reason, He spares us the agony and torment of an eternal Hell and gifts us eternity in the presence of our precious and loving Savior (Revelation 21:3-4). To our finite minds, in some ways, this doesn’t seem fair.

Glorify God and Enjoy Him Forever

July 10, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Do you ever think that we’re getting this whole thing wrong? We know our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (Isaiah 43:6-7), but that isn’t the driving force for most of our lives. We don’t wake up thinking about God and how we can glorify Him. And if we do, the busyness and distractions of this world soon overwhelm and overrule our intentions.

The Apostle Paul said whatever we do, we should do for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). That requires a constant focus on Jesus, but our preoccupation is instead with ourselves. We know in our hearts this life isn’t about us, but we’ve bought into the ways of the world to the point we’ve forgotten the point of it all.

Who Do You Say He Is?

July 7, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

When Jesus walked the earth as a man, almost all the people of His day had an opinion about who He was. Rumors swirled about a man who was becoming both more popular and controversial. Two sides formed, one believing He was from God and the other from the pits of Hell (John 7:12; Matthew 9:34). Within the two camps were many more divisions.

King Herod believed Jesus was John the Baptist back from the dead. He fell into the camp of those who believed Jesus was a man of God, but stopped well short of believing Jesus was the Messiah. At least Herod had an answer when anyone asked about Jesus, “Who do you say He is?” But to his eternal damnation, his answer fell short.

He Is Able to Fill All Our Needs

July 3, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

The gospels of Matthew and Mark both record two separate instances of Jesus feeding multitudes of people. Some skeptics like to argue these were retellings of the same miracle, but the setting and details of each are so different that their argument is without merit and not worthy of further discussion. It is no surprise Jesus performed a similar miracle more than once, because He often repeated miracles such as restoring sight to the blind (Matthew 9:27-30; Mark 8:22-25),

cleansing lepers (Luke 17:12-14; Matthew 8:2-3), healing the paralyzed (Matthew 9:1-7; John 5:5-9), and even raising the dead (Luke 7:11-15; John 11:43-44). We are confident in God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16), and thus we can be confident that Jesus fed vast multitudes at least twice during His ministry. Then, as now, Jesus wants us to see that no matter how impossible the challenge, He is able to fill all our needs.

Following Jesus Is Hard

June 30, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Let me state the obvious: following Jesus is hard. If you think following Jesus is easy, my bet is you aren’t following Him in the manner His Word prescribes. It’s easy to say you follow Jesus. It’s even easy to place your faith in Him. None of that requires anything on your part, and you can take it back whenever that decision becomes inconvenient.

The difficult work comes in living for Christ every waking moment of your life. As people born into sin, we all have an innate and outsized portion of selfishness that dominates our motives and desires (Romans 7:18). Keeping that alone in check often takes what feels like a Herculean effort. There’s nothing easy about living a holy life, so there’s nothing easy about following Jesus.
